To prevent cooking fires, you must be alert. You will not be alert if you are sleepy, have consumed alcohol, or have taken medicine or drugs that make you drowsy
If a fire does start in your kitchen use a lid or an extinguisher. Cooking with grease/oil should be done very carefully. Stay in the kitchen while cooking.
In a release recognizing #FirePreventionWeek, StatsCan says 1/3 of fires from 2015 to 2021 were cooking related and confirms cooking is the leading cause of fire and injuries.
