He couldn't say anything. His voice was trapped somewhere deep in his chest, tangled up with his heart and his lungs and everything else that was suddenly not working properly.
"Your Highness! What a pleasure to see you at this hour!
to marry someone worthy—a warrior, a captain—and rule alongside them.
Ah... that's what you're looking for.
Wearing a nightgown that was far too intimate for casual conversation. Tying her hair back with the easy familiarity of someone who had spent the night.
And behind her, through the open door, Viktor could see... things. Mel's belongings. Clothes draped over a chair. A bed that was clearly, unmistakably, recently occupied by two people.
Viktor's mind went blank. Then it went very, very loud.
Viktor recognized her immediately. Mel Medarda. The Noxian diplomat.
The one Jayce had vouched for. The one Viktor had reluctantly allowed to join the campaign. The one who was supposed to have returned to Noxus by now, because she was meant to govern there eventually, -
#jayvik AU - Bratty Prince Viktor and Guard Jayce
Prince Viktor is the most spoiled child in the entire kingdom. Like, next-level, unreasonably spoiled.
Corin Reveck—the King—is this cold, distant dude with everyone else. Absolutely FREEZING.
Which was good, actually, because if it had been Jayce, Viktor would have murdered him on the spot. But it wasn't Jayce. It was a woman.
Dark skin. Curly hair. Green eyes. The kind of striking beauty that made people turn their heads in crowded rooms.
But before his fingers could close around the cool metal, the door swung open from the inside.
And Viktor's heart stopped.
His amber eyes swept over the figure in the doorway—a figure that was very clearly NOT the father of his children.
He turned the corner, his cane tapping softly against the stone floor, and stopped in front of Jayce's door. His hand reached for the handle, ready to push it open without ceremony—he was the King, after all. He didn't knock on doors in his own palace.
When had Jayce's wishes become his commands? Viktor shook his head, pushing the thought away. He didn't have time for existential crises right now. He had a husband to find. A husband to confront. A husband to either forgive or strangle, depending on how the conversation went.
better quarters for the soldiers, a larger room for Caitlyn and her new partner, something about better heating or more space. Viktor always agreed. Caitlyn was like a little sister to Jayce, and if Jayce asked, Viktor gave.
When had he become so soft?
'Well, there was a first time for everything', Viktor thought as he made his way down the corridor toward the military wing.
He'd never visited this part of the palace before—not with this purpose. Usually, he only came here when Jayce suggested improvements:
"Finish your milk. And then maybe we can go find your papa and thank him for the stories."
Dorian's eyes lit up. "Can I get a piggyback ride?"
"Maybe. If he wants to"
"I'll be very gentle," Dorian promised, his voice solemn. "I won't pull his hair."
Viktor laughed again.
He's a silly papa. But he's my papa."
"Yes," Viktor said softly. "He is your papa. And he loves you very much."
Dorian beamed. "I know. He told me."
Viktor hugged Dorian tight, pressing a kiss to the top of his head.
"Come on," he said, his voice thick with emotion.
"She fell in the mud! Papá said she was so mad she chased him with a stick!"
Viktor's laughter filled the nursery, warm and genuine. He could picture it perfectly.
"Your father is ridiculous," Viktor said, shaking his head.
Dorian nodded enthusiastically. "He is!
"Papa said she fell off her horse because he—he—" He giggled, covering his mouth with his hands. "He made her saddle loose!"
Viktor blinked. Then he laughed—a real laugh, bright and unexpected. "He did what?"
"Made her saddle loose!" Dorian repeated, giggling helplessly.
the strange people they'd met. His speech was still a little unclear, a toddler's jumble of words and sounds, but Viktor listened patiently, his heart warming with every word.
"And Papa told me about the aunt Caitlyn," Dorian said, his eyes lighting up with mischief.
"I did say no lizards," Viktor confirmed, his smile widening. "Lizards are not palace pets."
Dorian nodded sagely, as if this were the most obvious thing in the world. Then he launched into a detailed retelling of everything Jayce had told him—about the battles, the new lands, -
He struggled with the word, his face scrunching up. "In a place with lots of sand."
Viktor smiled. "A desert."
"Yes! A desert! He said there were big lizards there and he almost brought me one but Mama said no lizards."
Dorian's brow furrowed, his little face making a complicated expression. He tilted his head, studying his mother's face.
But Dorian nodded. Papa brought me stories," he said, his voice brightening. "And toys. Big toys. He said he found them in a market in—in—"

"A new attack, maybe? I mean... it's a giant horse and—"
"No, Ekko," Jayce interrupted, spreading the parchment across the table. "This is the attack," he promised with a manic smile. "You see, I don't intend to stay here much longer. Soon, we'll all be going home, I promise."
That Viktor would burn the entire kingdom to the ground before he let anyone hurt them, even unintentionally.
Viktor breathed a little easier.
"Did he?" Viktor asked, keeping his voice light. "Did Captain Talis bring you something?"
