This brief overview only scratches the surface of the profound environmental implications stemming from REEs and “Sustainability Industry.” The wave of sustainability, unfortunately, is tainted by underlying corruption.

Paradoxically, many “green” innovations. Including wind turbines and EVs, not only require heavily on fossil fuels for extraction but also contribute significantly to toxic waste but is primarily propped up through the exploitation of minorities, specifically in South African and Asian countries.

With the increase in social awareness toward the “Climate Crisis” many countries have pledged to seek net zero for carbon emission. In order to meet this goal, countries have implemented solar power, wind power, hydroelectric power etc…, but what makes up these “Climate Friendly Sources”?

Generally speaking, all types of “Green Energy” require some amount of REEs (Rare Earth Element) to run functionally. In this Thread we are going to focus solely on EVs and Wind Turbines which both have large amounts of the Rare Earth Element, NdPr (Neodymium Praseodymium).

Not to mention that these ores are commonly laced with radioactive thorium and uranium. Much of the environmental desolation caused by these REE can be seen in China where farmers have seen entire herds of sheep die due to polluted waters. Not to mention, the negative long term effect it has on humans. All in, every ton of REE created, 2,000 tons of toxic waste are produced (EuRare).

To understand the significance of that number. The largest producer of REE, China, produced 120,000 tons in 2018 and that metric has only increased since then. Even worse, in 2018 USA produced 15,000 tons and in 2021 that number increased tenfold to 168,000 tons.
