Some of our wonderful volunteers with the new information board in Castle Wood Rose Garden. The roses are in full bloom and the beds have all been weeded this week. Do come and admire them when you can.
So if any residents have any suggestions for long term maintenance the Council needs to do in parks or woods, please let @CDavisEltham or I know. It really is important to stop homes flooding when the ground get soaked as it is today. #Eltham@ElthamMatters@OxleasFriends
@louisagreenmuso Apologies Louisa this account isn't regularly monitored. You should always call the fire brigade if you find a fire in the woods, unfortunately a smouldering fire will not burn itself out and requires more water you'd expect. Thank you for your vigilance.

It's July and we've reached 100 posts since lockdown! As restrictions are lifting and more of you are able to enjoy the woods first-hand we are bringing our daily posts to an end.
We leave you with this picture from Marketa - It's Moon Poo Slime.

The Ghost of Falconwood House (later Hotel) is visible this summer as yellow patches in Hotel Field. You can see the foundation scars of the front of Falconwood House built in 1865 for Lord Truro and demolished in the 1950s.

Fungi aren't exclusive to autumn. Look out for Dryad's Saddle (Polyporus Squamosus) the largest capped mushroom in the UK.
You'll usually find it on Sycamore and Horse Chestnuts. It can be used to make paper - but we wouldn't recommend it.

The Wild Service Tree (Sorbus torminalis) is an ancient-woodland indicator. It is a sign that Oxleas Woodlands is a rare and special habitat.
The lobed leaves are similar to maple, and turn a rich, coppery red in autumn. We have chosen the leaf as the symbol in our logo.
Oak Processionary Moth caterpillars have been found in Oxleas Woodlands. OPM's devastate the leaves and will kill the oak tree. Their hairs cause serious skin reactions to humans and animals.
