Three images with three different hurricane shades. What these images don’t say is that we have 50 plus hurricane shades in different shapes, different size, different color and different design. There is something for everyone.

The French Bronze (gold tone) sand cast and hand engraved brass base can be customized (if you prefer a different finish).

We also have this in Aventurine Green (aka Powder Green Jade in some regions), Rock Crystal and Lapis Lazuli. The stone bases are sculptured from blocks of stone (not vaneer).

New England Glass Company in 1827 invented pressed glass machines, but pressed glass was perfected by the Boston and Sandwich Glass Company. American Opaline Pressed Glass, aka Clam Broth Glass, aka Alabaster Glass, has its root in New England, MA.

No Alabaster Glass (Clam Broth Glass) is not made from stone. It is not your regular glass either. It is a semi opaque translucent white glass. It is uniquely different from regular glass.

We have a whole range of lighting fixtures in Opaline / Alabaster Glass. What you see here is frosted opaline pressed glass.

Four carved wood backplates for Federal Sconces have now been added to our regular stock

While we carry a lot of artisanal handmade lighting fixtures (in endless variations), 90% of what we do is custom. Basically, most of what we do is never displayed in a showroom (except in Fairfield, NJ) or on our website.

Nonetheless from time to time, we take some popular custom items and make them part of our regular items. Recently we added four carved wood backplates to our regular items. Here you can see three (Pinecone, Scroll, and Acanthus) alongside the sconces it can be used with.

People ask, “In the era for Parm, why make products more suitable for Carbone ?”

Sure, there is a propensity at Oxshott Collection to kick it up a notch, but we try to balance that out by offering multiple versions. For every John Smedley version, we also have a Fred Perry version. Truth be told we also offer an in-between Sunspel version.

This Registan Photophore will be soon available in sand cast & hand chased brass. It will also come in a Lapis Lazuli Version. A jade version. In short there will be something for everyone.

Plus, we have hundreds or different hurricane glass shades to go with this photophore.

Registan Photophore (Progress Report)

Cameron Conway (author & professor) says, “If pain is a pot of boiling water, humor can be the rising steam”. This connection between humor/creativity and pain is so well known that that in one way or the other, poets around the world ask, “What pain are you covering up with that smile ?”.

Seen here are two versions of our Registan Rock Crystal Photophores. Some will see sheer beauty (a very valid observation); But others will look beyond the beauty and see labor, toil, and turbulence behind the creation.

The process starts with the search for the appropriate stone. Bottom Right is Registan Rock Crystal Photophore made with 90% clarity stone. Top Right is made with 60% clarity stone. Same stone, but different clarity translates into different price points. Finding Rock crystal with just 30 to 50 % clarity is relatively easy, thereafter the search is exhausting (it is all about sweet patience).

Once the stone is found (video on the left), carving & chiseling it into the end product without damaging the stone is another painful battle. A lot of individual efforts coalesced into making of this one fixture.

Registan Photophore (Work in Progress)

On the right is our Registan Photophore. The base (up to the cup in which the hurricane shade sits in) will be made in sand cast and hand chased brass. We also offer another version where the base will also be carved out of solid Rock Crystal (another where the base is made from Lapis Lazuli and still another out of Jade).

But here is the problem. A block of rock crystal where atleast 50% of the stone is clear like crystal is hard to find. So right now, we are searching for the right block of stone, not 100% clarity because that is very expensive, but something with atleast 50% clarity. Shown here is a stone we just rejected.
