The AANS mourns the passing of Professor M. Gazi Yaşargil, a towering figure in #neurosurgery, who passed away June 10, 2025 — just weeks before his 100th birthday.
Regarded as the father of microneurosurgery, Professor Yaşargil revolutionized the field through his innovations, including the Yasargil aneurysm clip and the floating microscope. A transformative educator, he mentored generations of neurosurgeons and changed countless lives through his surgical brilliance and dedication.
In April, the AANS honored him with the 2025 Distinguished Service Award and received a heartfelt video message from Professor Yaşargil and his wife, Dianne — now a cherished tribute to his legacy.
We extend our deepest condolences to his loved ones and the global neurosurgical community. His vision, skill and humanity will continue to shape our field for generations.
