Sharafadeen Alli As Chairman Odu’a Investment Limited: Leadership, Enterprise and a Legacy of Development

Long before his emergence as the Senator representing Oyo South Senatorial District, Senator Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli had built a record spanning public administration, politics and corporate leadership. One significant chapter in that journey was his tenure as Chairman of Odu’a Investment Company Limited, the conglomerate established to manage and grow some of the economic assets inherited from the old Western Region.

Alli assumed office as the 19th Chairman of Odu’a Investment on August 8, 2011, representing Oyo State on the board. His appointment placed him at the head of an institution with interests across property, hospitality, manufacturing, agriculture, telecommunications and other sectors.
The responsibility was about more than preserving what previous generations had built. It was also about ensuring that those assets remained productive and commercially relevant.

Shortly after assuming office, Alli toured a number of Odu’a businesses and investments, including Premier Hotel, Lafia Hotel, Odu’a Telecoms, Nigerian Wire and Cable, Askar Paints and other operations.
By 2012, Odu’a had recorded more than ₦750 million in profit for the business year, attributing the performance to greater fiscal discipline, accountability and a changing approach to business.
Perhaps the most visible legacy of the period was the development and commissioning of Heritage Mall and Cocoa Mall in Dugbe, Ibadan. Sen. Alli oversaw the projects that stands tall as one of the legacy achievements of the Odu’a investment limited
Sen Alli’s period was not defined by physical investments alone. Odu’a also continued its Scholarship Award Scheme, reflecting an investment in human capital across its shareholder states.
Under the programme, themed “Nurturing the Leaders of Tomorrow,” scholarships were offered to indigent but academically strong undergraduates from Oyo, Ogun, Ondo, Osun and Ekiti states. Applicants were expected to maintain strong academic performance and demonstrate the character and good conduct associated with the Yoruba concept of Omoluabi.
The scholarship programme supported students across disciplines ranging from medicine, law and engineering to agriculture, social sciences and Yoruba.
