The Nigeria Society of Physiotherapy (NSP), led by its President, Dr. Felix Oyinlola Odusanya, on Wednesday paid a courtesy visit to the Oyo State Head of Service, Dr. Adenike Fasina, mni, at the Office of the Head of Service, Secretariat, Ibadan.

Following verification through the appropriate regulatory channels, the name “Mary Habila,” as stated, does not appear on the database of registered physiotherapists.

This development underscores why it is essential that public officials, especially those occupying the highest levels of government, exercise due diligence before presenting or associating individuals with regulated professions. Public office carries with it a responsibility to ensure that information placed before Nigerians is accurate and verifiable.

The Nigeria Society of Physiotherapy (NSP) has consistently maintained that professional identity is not a matter of assumption or public perception, it is a matter of verifiable fact. Where questions arise, they should be resolved through the appropriate regulatory processes, not through speculation or unverified claims.

We trust that this clarification will guide subsequent discussions and remind all stakeholders that the integrity of regulated professions must be respected. The public deserves accuracy, and professionals deserve to have their qualifications and identities represented truthfully.

Finally, while it is important to establish the facts, we must not lose sight of the human tragedy at the heart of this matter. We extend our sincere condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones of the deceased, and pray that her soul rests in perfect peace. May they find strength and comfort during this difficult time.

The Nigeria Society of Physiotherapy (NSP) proudly congratulates one of our distinguished members, Professor Efe Useh, on being honoured with the prestigious World Physiotherapy Africa Region Award, becoming only the second recipient of this continental recognition.

Professor Useh, a Nigerian physiotherapist based in South Africa, received the award during the recently concluded World Physiotherapy Africa Region Congress, held in Kigali, Rwanda, from 5–6 June 2026. His recognition reflects decades of outstanding contributions to physiotherapy education, research, leadership, and professional development across Africa and beyond.

The NSP is particularly proud of Professor Useh, who previously served the Society as its National Public Relations Officer (PRO), and whose achievements continue to inspire physiotherapists across Nigeria and the African continent.

It is also noteworthy that the first recipient of the World Physiotherapy Africa Region Award was another distinguished Nigerian, Pa Dr. Thompson Abayomi Oshin, the first trained African physiotherapist and the pioneer of physiotherapy practice in Nigeria. Dr. Oshin remains a towering figure in the history of the profession and is set to celebrate his 100th birthday on 30 July 2026.

That the first two recipients of this prestigious African award are Nigerians is a testament to Nigeria’s enduring contributions to the growth, advancement, and leadership of physiotherapy in Africa.

The Nigeria Society of Physiotherapy celebrates these remarkable achievements and remains proud of the legacy and excellence they represent.
