Carer experience of inpatient admission "what was remarkable- but shouldn't be, were those staff who were respectful, who smiled, were responsive... this conveyed its own hope." #Spectrum2022
Carer states that we need to confront the myth that short term inpatient admissions should be avoided- "it acted as a circuit breaker" and allows the family and individual a reprieve from the "pressure cooker" and exhaustion of keeping them safe.

Consumer perspective: being able to regulate emotions comes with connection, not isolation. See the behaviour as communication. Staff must be educated on how to respond to challenging behaviours in a therapeutic way.
#Spectrum2022
Set the expectation that people with BPD can recover, live satisfying and successful lives. Maintain a sense of hope, particularly when the person can't feel it themselves.
There is always hope- people can and do recover from BPD.
