The oldest kingdom in Nigeria is widely recognised as Kingdom of Nri, which dates back to around 900 AD or possibly earlier. But long before kingdoms emerged, Igboland already stood out as one of the oldest continuously inhabited regions in Nigeria, & indeed, all of West Africa.

In 1960 French intelligence officers counterfeited Guineas new currency, snuck into Guinea & distributed piles of cash to poor people to cause hyperinflation. The operation was known as Operation Persil (Bleaching).
This was part of a larger French effort to destabilize the newly independent West African nation. French workers also dismantled railway tracks, dug up water & sewage plumbing, destroyed the electrical grid, burned down schools & government buildings. 3000 French business owners & other professionals left Guinea, closed all their businesses, withdrew all their money from banks. French farmers in Guinea even slaughtered all their farm animals, including horses, burnt food warehouses & poisoned drinking wells.
