(5/6) Life is a human right, and all that is essential to give life is a human right, such as clean water, food, and housing.
Clean water accessibility extends beyond survival and into honoring cultural and environmental needs. Access is essential for Indigenous communities to exercise their rights to self-determination and environmental stewardship over their Native lands.
(4/6) Within Native communities, nearly 50 percent of households on reservations do not have access to clean water.
Native homes are 19 times more likely than to lack indoor plumbing than white homes. In the Navajo Nation, 30 percent of families live without running water.
(3/6) Maternal hydration enables the mother and fetus to maintain good health support the safety of both people during the pregnancy. It impacts many things like body temperature and amniotic fluid volume.
Waterborne diseases and water-related illnesses caused by unsafe drinking water influence adverse pregnancy outcomes & can cause maternal and infant mortality.
(2/6) Did you know? More than 2 billion people worldwide lack access to clean water. Within the US, 46 million people don’t have safe drinking water, and 4.8 percent of them do not have any running water in their housing. Of these numbers, Native people are disproportionately affected.
