Public education is foundational for maintaining a free country. To quote Jefferson “Educate and inform the whole mass of the people- They are the only sure reliance for the preservation of our liberty.”

The national Education Law Center school funding report is out- PA gets an A for level of funding and effort of funding...
and a big F for our very inequitable distribution of funding.

Our statement on the passage of the 2024-2025 budget.
Is it perfect? No.
Do we still need a multi-year plan? Yes.
Are we incredibly glad to see the @PaLegis acknowledge its constitutional duty to provide a quality, equitable education? YES.
Rural schools are the ♥️ of rural communities.
It breaks our 💔 that our own rural legislators aren't the loudest voices for adequate funding.
@SenatorPittman please #ShowTheNumbers for your proposed school funding plan.
Our @PARSS2go kids are waiting.

The only reason to use such a bogus methodology is to back into a lower price tag. They want to artificially undercount poor kids and pass the buck to school districts and local taxpayers. It disingenuous and wrong, and House leaders and @GovernorShapiro should reject it.
The details get a little wonky, but here’s the TL,DR: Senate leaders are cynically trying to shave off $1.5 billion from what they owe inadequately funded, low-wealth school districts using an unprincipled and bogus methodology to undercount kids in poverty.
Reach out to YOUR state senator and remind them that PA students are counting on them to pass a budget that fully and fairly funds their public schools!

As negotiations continue in Harrisburg, @GovernorShapiro is supporting a $5 Billion increase in the public education budget over 7 years – show him you support him with a quick text of thanks. #STAYSTRONG#FInishTheJob#PABudget
Thank you @GovernorShapiro for working hard on behalf of my students in Scranton! Working for adequate, equitable, & constitutional education funding is not an easy task, but I have faith in you to get it done! Sending you all the good vibes today! @TeachPlusPA@PASchoolsWork
“We don’t want a bad budget to pass on time. We want a good budget where school districts can actually count on it. The House has done the job. The governor says he supports it. The Senate has to do its job.” #FinishTheJob#PABudget

"Most Pennsylvania children rely on public education to prepare them for the future. Please urge your state lawmakers to fully support public schools and the students who are counting on them." #FinishTheJob#PABudget

A reminder to all of our lawmakers negotiating the #PABudget -- Our public schools need constitutional funding, and Pennsylvanians across the Commonwealth are hoping you'll #FinishTheJob for our students!
What would sufficient public school funding mean for Pennsylvania? According to researchers at @PennGSE
🎓3,800 more high school graduates
📚3,860 more college enrollees
These improvements would yield more than $5 billion in economic benefits for PA https://t.co/ebrwBvMzos
"New research from the University of Pennsylvania shows that sending billions more to school districts in the Commonwealth will more than pay for itself over time by increasing high school graduation rates and college enrollment levels." #FinishTheJob

Investing in every kid pays off now and keeps paying off. Best of all, it pays for itself.

When they take the 1% of kids out of schools like this, what are they going to do for the 99% of kids that are going to be left behind in these buildings? (2/3)
"Private schools can pick and choose; public schools cannot--they must teach economically disadvantaged students, ELL students and students with disabilities. That requires funding that can’t be raised in districts that abound with low-income households" https://t.co/7ubWoBm8nX
