I am pleased to share that I have been confirmed as an Academic Adviser to the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission (CSC). Specifically, in the areas of Climate Change and Natural Resources.

The panel of CSC Academic Advisers plays a critical role in the selection of Commonwealth Scholars and Fellows. The CSC provides the main UK government scholarship scheme led by international development objectives.

Throughout my studies (including PhD), I was unlucky with scholarships, now, I am advising on the award of PhD scholarships. We should never give up! God works in mysterious ways!

It was a great honour to co-author the report on the Sustainable Management of Mineral Resources in Ghana and their Alignment with the African Mining Vision (AMV). Ghana is one of the five countries undergoing this assessment. Others include Zambia, DRC, Gabon, and Morocco.

The work was commissioned by the @AfricanAmdc and @AfCFTA with support from the @EU_TAF_AfCFTA .

We held an advocacy workshop on 27 February in Accra to launch the Ghana report.

Another objective of the meeting was to underscore the necessity of ratifying the statutes of the AMDC. This has become all the more urgent following Nigeria's recent ratification of the statutes in February 2024.

The key finding from the report was that #Ghana is at an advanced stage of Africa Mining Vision #AMV implementation, with a high rate of progression throughout the six African Mining Governance Framework pillars.

Recommendations from the report include:
✅ The introduction of competitive bidding to allocate new mining acreages where the geological potential has been studied or known.
✅ Investment in geological data acquisition to map out prospects and improve the State’s bargaining hand in negotiations
✅ Develop and implement a new green minerals development plan
✅ Introduce a new fiscal regime for green minerals
✅ Enhance cross-institutional learning to improve revenue capture and administration.
✅ Enact a broader mining revenue management law
✅ Enforce laws and regulations on artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM)

🎯 Key takeaways from the workshop highlighted the importance of addressing gender disparities in the mining sector and promoting the African Green Minerals Strategy for sustainable development. Furthermore, participants emphasized the need for rigorous enforcement of existing laws in the regulatory environment.
