As part of our 75th celebrations we hosted @newsfromkyushu Andrew Thomson our invitational event. His father won 6 times here including the 1959 @NZOpenGolf During his address, Andrew shared that he had privately scattered some of his father’s ashes on our 18 green. Very special
To mark the 75th anniversary of when a group of golfing enthusiasts met to transact the business to form the Paraparaumu Beach Golf Club, it was an honour to address the membership with a presentation reflecting back on the many chapters of the “Paraparaumu Beach Story”.
Round 6 - Paraparaumu Beach
This is a true links course, with bouncy, rolling land.
One of the best set of par 3s anywhere and some all-world par 4s too.
It feels like could be somewhere on the Southport coastline rather than just north of Wellington NZ. A great golf course!
It was a special day hosting Sir Bob Charles back PBGC where he won 6 times and still holds the course record of 62. In recognition of his contribution to golf both home and abroad and to acknowledge the special relationship with PBGC Sir Bob was bestowed Honorary Membership
This 1959 aerial of @PBGC1 was modified for the @NZOpenGolf program that year with hole numbers and corridors added and the initials VP to signify suggested viewing points for spectators.
January 15: Paraparaumu Beach
Located near the bottom of New Zealand's north island, @PBGC1 requires some game to navigate. The green edges make @PinehurstResort No.2 look tame at times and give players an experience similar to what you'd find in the UK.

@QCbillington@paraparaumupaul@bushwood94 @montgomeriefdn @RoyalTroonGC You are correct John. It was filled in somewhat in the late sixties I think. The late Bob Glading lamented this tinkering in the clubs history book. We shallowed it back out and put some shape back a few years ago and reverted to short grass.
A beautiful early morning round @PBGC1. This Alex Russell gem has some of the most intriguing ground contours and devilish greens complexes found anywhere. Hats off to @BunkersB and his team who continue to refine and polish this remarkable masterpiece.
Great to be back at @PBGC1 this weekend. The course is continually improving - with all the exotic trees gone the native grasses, ferns and cabbage trees are flourishing
“To reach that kind of consistency in performance as a professional golfer, the avg person has no idea how much work that takes” - Episode 2 drops tomorrow of Steve Williams “Legends of the Links” @TigerWoods
“I would never have become as an efficient caddy as what I became if I hadn’t of been learning my trade on a links golf course” - Steve Williams is this weeks guest on Legends of the Links https://t.co/UdtHkmoLIH @PBGC1@TigerWoods@SharkGregNorman
Russell’s original design for the 12th hole provided a “channel” for the aggressive and more direct play or safer, but longer, alternative option out towards the 17th. Fascinating strategic options yet to be realised.
