@rlmgrandpa@deewalkerbooks "In a (pre WW2) world where AI fed 137 news services, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, how could you tell what was genuine and what was the product of a clever, devious and determined mind?"
@rlmgrandpa@deewalkerbooks "Information wasn't neutral, if it was believed or even half believed, then everything began to change subtly as a result - the ripple effect could have consequences no-one could foresee. False information can be just as influential, useful, transforming or damaging as truth."
@campbellclaret@RestIsPolitics Good insights. Trump can't be a homophobe with Bessent as Treasury Secretary. Dominant respects dominant. Game respects game.
@smokiedawson@lenphil29 I'm 71 now & gradually drank less over last 5 years until now it's a glass with friends once a week. Mainly just sleep better and have more energy. As the clock winds down that's important. You'll never know how much better you'll feel if you don't try it with a month off.
@rlmgrandpa@deanpb_author Alec Guinness as George Smiley in the 1979 BBC 7 part Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy series. Also the later Smiley's People. Streams on Prime. 2011 movie with Gary Oldman as Smiley is good but compresses the nuance that the series & book captures.
@ttmygh@RPMComo Football ties itself in financial knots with accounting & financial fictions when a fixed $ salary cap as per US & Australian sport is simple fix. As in health care - "free" markets don't work in sport - they just inflate & erode.
@readswithravi When 8 - Captain W E Johns - Biggles author. Alistair MacLean adventure novels when 13. Then John LeCarre when 21 & everything he wrote since. At 60 all the Henning Mankell Wallender detective novels. Better than the TV series. It's the inner lives that matter. @rlmgrandpa
@jarodhitchcock MP offices were 2 desks; filing cabinet & a handbasin (to wash off the blood?) Tasmanian right wing Independent Senator Brian Harradine sometimes slept in office to save TA to feed large extended family. ALP staffer party trick to take turns to ring on the hour after midnight.
Do yourself a favour. Much more than golf architect - medicine; Boer & WW1; camouflage; iconoclast & curmudgeon. Fascinating Australian football history from 1926 in the last 20 minutes for the non-golfer. @thefootyalmanac
