@arianaaa7733 @sceptictakeout @SkepticShow I would have loved to continue our conversation but Twitter is probably too hectic of a place for a prolonged convo. If you’d like to speak further you can shoot me a DM. Otherwise, maybe think about giving Eric and Vi a call today. One hour until showtime!
@arianaaa7733 @sceptictakeout @SkepticShow Understood. As far as what things mean at different times I don’t think that really matters especially for things like slavery and homophobia. For instance: What message do you believe Leviticus 18:22 is trying to convey? You can use any translation you’d like.
@theatheistal @SkepticShow Talking out of my ass here but I’m pretty sure watching the old ones helps as well. I could be wrong but I think monetizafion factors in views and total watch time? I dunno the point is, I watch them all and upvote that shit to the moon.
Skeptic Generation 3:16: "For Vi and Eric so loved their subscribers, that they gave their every Sunday, that whosoever follows them shall not be bored, but have everlasting livestreams."
@arianaaa7733 @sceptictakeout @SkepticShow If the bible is the word of god, why would it be limited by language barriers? Wouldn’t that god want to make sure people all over the world, throughout time, had equal opportunity to hear their(god’s) words?
Hello please raise your hand if you didn’t always know you were queer & it hit you like a ton of bricks “later in life” (for the sake of this tweet, let’s call “later in life” any time after turning 21.) Feeling the queer imposter syndrome a little bit.
@LoneWolfUsul@arianaaa7733@SkepticShow There’s definitely a time and place for absolute candor but there’s no need to be dismissive immediately. You just come across as aggressive and uninterested in the learning process.
@LoneWolfUsul@arianaaa7733@SkepticShow I couldn’t disagree more. Politeness and socratic questioning is a much more effective communication tool than aggressive/curt candor. It’s easier to learn when someone isn’t insinuating negative things about your epistemology.
@sceptictakeout @arianaaa7733@SkepticShow Also, I was assuming you’re being facetious. Now that I know that wasn’t the intention behind your phrasing, I have to offer an apology for assuming you were going to be aggressive
@sceptictakeout @arianaaa7733@SkepticShow This is where I’m being pedantic. I think the term “yardstick” was implying you were presupposing their criteria was flawed. I consider historical analysis, textual analysis, etc to be different criteria and I agree with you there. I just think that’s a better term than yardstick
@LoneWolfUsul@arianaaa7733@SkepticShow I agree with you on the “pithy” part. I was under the impression that word meant something different. But so think we also have a difference in what we consider to be polite.
@LoneWolfUsul@arianaaa7733@SkepticShow So, you're fine with responding to a perceived insult with an insult? If that's how you want to go about conversations with people you disagree with, I'm sorry for you. Be better than that. This isn't charity. It's being patient and willing to communicate.
@LoneWolfUsul@arianaaa7733@SkepticShow You don't need to refer to people or their beliefs as tacky. You're not helping anything by doing that. It doesn't seem like you want to have a conversation. You just want to belittle and I don't have time for that.
@LoneWolfUsul@arianaaa7733@SkepticShow You're right about some of this. That's why I clarified with Ariana that assuming I don't know scripture is an incorrect way of beginning a conversation. There's no need to be pithy. I think you're reacting very strongly and impolitely.
@LoneWolfUsul@arianaaa7733@SkepticShow We are trying to have a good conversation over here. “What a sad excuse” and similar phrases are unproductive. I have questions as well but I’m interested in good conversation, not interrogation.
@arianaaa7733@SkepticShow Sort of. I’ve been watching them long enough to have what I think is a good general sense of their point of view on a wide array of things. But with claims on religion I do not “trust” them or anyone right off the bat. I did that for too long. I start with skepticism
