One of my Navaratri practices is to chant the Lalitasahasranama. All thousand names of the Devi are beautiful, but this one speaks to me the most.

She is called इच्छा शक्ति-ज्ञान शक्ति-क्रिया शक्ति स्वरूपिणी, the power of will, the power of knowledge and the power of action, all rolled into one.

Each morning these days, as I chant the ललितासहस्रनाम, I try to ask myself three simple questions. What do I truly want to do today? Do I know enough to begin? And how will I act on it today?

Empowering Communities. Preserving Nature. Transforming Livelihoods.

Bringing science closer to society, IIT Kharagpur organised a Stakeholder Interaction and Knowledge Dissemination Workshop under the DST-SEED-supported project aimed at strengthening sustainable livelihoods among tribal communities in Mayurbhanj, Odisha.

The workshop commenced with an address by Prof. Jayanta Mukhopadhyay, Dean (Strategy and Analytics), and was organised by an interdisciplinary IIT Kharagpur team comprising Dr. Sayak Roychowdhury (Project PI), Prof. Bhagirath Behera (Joint PI), Prof. Soumya Kanti Ghosh (Co-PI), Prof. Pulak Mishra (Co-PI), and Dr. Pritha Datta (Co-PI).

The deliberations brought together Shri Sumit Kar, IFS, Deputy Director, Simlipal South Wildlife Division, various district officials, scientists, NGO representatives, grassroots entrepreneurs and community stakeholders.

From indigenous knowledge and biodiversity conservation to mushroom cultivation, integrated farming, renewable energy and rural entrepreneurship, the workshop explored how scientific interventions can create sustainable economic opportunities while preserving local ecosystems.

Through this initiative, IIT Kharagpur reaffirms its commitment to translating research into meaningful societal impact and building resilient, self-reliant rural communities.

Established in 2004, Maharashtra Mandal continues to enrich the cultural fabric of our campus. The vibrant Dhol-Tasha and Lezim added a distinctive Maharashtrian spirit to this year’s festivities.

The deliberations provided an important platform to present the Institute’s perspectives on the proposed higher education framework, including academic standards, institutional autonomy, accreditation, research & innovation, and transparent, future-ready governance of higher education.

To every student stepping into internship and placement season: you are not your CGPA, not your first offer, and certainly not the outcome of a 15-minute interview. You are something far bigger.

You are a problem solver. For 75 years, KGPians have walked out of these gates and into the hardest problems in the world, and solved them. In boardrooms and labs, in space missions and startups, in public service and policy.

You are an opportunity creator. KGPians don't just apply for the jobs that exist. They build the companies, technologies and institutions that create jobs for generations to come.
