Congress enacted the most comprehensive federal PBM transparency and accountability reforms in history this year in the Consolidated Appropriations Act.

As PCMA's Alison LaPidus, Director, Policy & Regulatory Affairs, writes, now comes the equally important task of sorting out the details.

PBMs are committed to being constructive partners in @CMSGov's efforts. In comments submitted to CMS this week, PCMA outlined recommendations to help ensure the new law delivers meaningful transparency while avoiding unintended consequences that could increase costs, create administrative burdens, or disrupt access to prescription drugs for patients.

Today, @GOPoversight is considering H.R. 6610, the Pharmacists Fight Back [in Federal Employee Health Benefit Plans Act]. The legislation mandates minimum reimbursement rates for pharmacies participating in the Federal Employee Health Benefit plan (FEHB), adding significant cost to the program with no added benefit to enrollees.

Today, @HouseCommerce is considering H.R. 5526, the Biosimilar Red Tape Elimination Act. PCMA strongly supports the legislation as a much-needed step toward ending Big Pharma’s War on Generics that keeps patients paying high drug prices for too long.

The Consolidated Appropriations Act enacted the most significant PBM transparency and accountability reforms in the industry’s history. That legislation, in combination with significant reforms over the past several years to PBM business models effectively settled any debate – the PBMs of today are not the PBMs of yesterday.

That’s why the @USDOL pending PBM regulation is duplicative, unnecessary, and puts that progress at risk. Smaller PBMs are sounding the alarm — and they’re right to.

Today, the @WaysandMeansGOP is considering HR 9645. This bill includes several provisions that are duplicative of the sweeping PBM reform enacted earlier this year in the Consolidated Appropriations Act.
