Melanomas can vary greatly in how they look. Many show all of the ABCDE features. However, some sub-types of melanoma may have only one or two of the ABCDE features or even none at all.

Today we highlight two papers from @antoniagage's group @ThinkUHI! First, a #openaccess#review on the roles that B cells and antibodies play in #melanoma

Oxidative stress is one of the triggering factors for #vitiligo, which leads to #melanocyte destruction in these lesions. Here, Wu et al investigate the role of #ferroptosis in vitiligo & its inhibition in vitro:

Here, Yu et al establish & characterize an immortalized #giant#congenital#melanocytic#nevi cell line. They assess gene expression & driver mutation status, & show this line has a โฌ๏ธ proliferation rate & โฌ๏ธ melanin content than primary melanocytes:

#OpenAccess#Melanoma has observed a female advantage in incidence, mortality, & overall survival since the 1970s.
In this Review, Dakup et al highlight epidemiological evidence of these sex differences & summarize the landscape of their potential origin:

New therapies such as immune checkpoint blockers have extended survival of #melanoma patients, but they have debilitating side effects. Here, Robinson et al review the role of #eosinophils in treatment response modulation ๐๐ฝ

In this study, Saito et al analyse a Japanese ๐ฏ๐ต patient with a type of #oculocutaneous#albinism. They find a variant in their genome coding for SLC24A5 p.G200R. Then, they characterise this variant with a mouse model, which shows pigmentation defects!
