Excited that this training was able to be done!
Folks across the country, COVID has put a bit of a damper on being able to do live training (i.e. travel) BUT we hope to be back strong sometime in 2021!
Great to see expansion into the outpatient arena through collaboration between pharmacists & physicians (inc. trainees) to conduct allergy assessment and skin testing.
Jumping for joy because today we kicked off a Penicillin Allergy Assessment & Skin Testing program at a Prisma Health Internal Medicine Clinic. Thrilled to be taking this service to the outpatient world & thankful for some amazing colleagues that helped make this possible 💉💊
New article in CID on successful pharmacist implementation of assessment and skin testing in the ED. Great place to implement!

@jeffpears0n When using positive challenges as the reference standard for clinically significant immunologically mediated cross reactivity between betalactams sharing side chains, the rates of positive reactions are rarely greater than rate for any not sharing side chains, about 1 to 2%.
PCN Allergies, day 4: A meta-analysis looked at cross-reactivity potential in #PCNallergy patients. Cross-reactivity varied: 16.5% chance for cephalosporins with similar R1 side chains, 2.1% for cephs with different side chains, and 0.9% for carbapenems https://t.co/ctyUr7fwTi
It's quite clear the harm in a penicillin allergy label. If you have an opportunity, inpatient or outpatient, take the time to reconcile it...and hopefully resolve it with other tools (eg skin test, oral challenge) when possible. #IDTwitter#penicillin
