Pat Summitt was a Coaching LEGEND.
What was her career coaching record?
1,098-208 (84%) and 8 National Championships!
Absolutely astounding. What made her Elite?
Here are 8 Reasons Pat Summitt was a Legend:
1: INCREDIBLY COMPETITIVE - "You can’t always be the most talented person in the room. But you can be the most competitive.”
Coach Summit and her teams were incredibly competitive. They played with a passion and spirit that separated them from most. The very best are the most competitive. They hate to lose. Pat Summitt hated to lose.
2: TEAMWORK - “Teamwork is what makes common people capable of uncommon results.”
Teamwork makes the dream work. We are only as good as the sum of our parts. Pat Summitt's teams were tight-knit, competitive, and were a team.
3: ATTITUDE - “Attitude is a choice. What you think you can do, whether positive or negative, confident or scared, will most likely happen.”
Attitude is life. It is how we approach each day, and our attitude determines our altitude. Everything begins with attitude, including our resilience and our approach to learning and success.
4: SUCCESS - “Success is a project that’s always under construction.”
W Pat Summitt's terms never "arrived." They were always a work in progress. Always learning and growing until the very end. Always remember that success is a journey, not a destination.
5: LEARNING - “Sometimes you learn more from losing than winning. Losing forces you to reexamine.”
We learn from losing. There is no such thing as failure unless you let it define who you are. Failure is simply an opportunity to grow and learn. This is the approach that winners like Pat Summitt had.
6: RELATIONSHIPS - “I won 1,098 games and eight national championships and coached in four different decades. But what I see are not the numbers. I see their faces.”
Coaching is about relationships. It is about getting the most out of your people. In order to get the most, you have to be connected with them. Patt Summitt was connected.
7: ADVERSITY AND WEAKNESS - “No one feels strong when she examines her own weakness. But in facing weakness, you learn how much there is in you, and you find real strength.”
Adversity makes you stronger. It is where the rubber hits the road. The most successful people are very resilient. They view adversity as an opportunity. Pat Summitt was no different.
8: CHAMPIONS - “There is an old saying: a champion is someone who is willing to be uncomfortable.”
Pat Summitt was a Champion. In many areas of her life. You have to be willing to set yourself apart and take risks if you want to achieve at the highest level. Pat Summitt did this.
