First day of our Sodexo strike was a strong success, with picket line support from PCS members, Irish Congress, Unison, UCU, Unite, NIPSA and Belfast and District Trades Council.
Gerry Murphy, assistant general secretary of the Irish Congress of Trade Unions, said “Irish Congress fully supports PCS members in Sodexo on strike to defend against redundancies. Disputes like these highlight the urgent need for the Good Jobs Bill to progress to debate in the NI assembly.”
Unison's Irish regional Secretary Patricia McKeown talked about the campaign to oppose privatisation and profiteering by multinational companies across the public sector.
Maria Morgan, NIPSA deputy general secretary said "NIPSA stands with PCS members in Sodexo, on strike to fight redundancies. Stay strong, comrades. We support you".
General Secretary, Fran Heathcote said, “We send our solidarity to our members in Sodexo who are on strike at Erskine House, Belfast over threats to their jobs. PCS believes that outsourcing is a failed experiment, bring the jobs back in house and give our members a secure future.”

PCS existing and retired members are, understandably, annoyed, horrified, and appalled by the level of service provided by the UK Civil Service Pension Administration and the huge private sector firm Capita, says former NIPSA assistant secretary Tony McMullan, now Northern Ireland Secretary of the Civil Service Pensioners’ Alliance. He writes that a working model for an in-house Civil Service Pension Administration is not too far away; it already exists in Northern Ireland.
