Last week, we watched the Class of 2026 walk across the field at Pete Rich Stadium for the last time — not as students, but as graduates. It's a moment that never gets old, and one that means the world to this community.
We are so incredibly proud of each and every one of them. The years of hard work, the late nights, the challenges they overcame — it all led up to this moment. Now, the next chapter begins, and we cannot wait to see where life takes them.
Congratulations again, Class of 2026. We will always be cheering for you.

Freedom was purchased at a great price.
The freedom to learn. The freedom to dream. The freedom to grow into who they're meant to be. None of that is possible without the men and women who gave everything so that we could have it all.
On this Memorial Day, we honor and remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice. We are forever grateful, and we will never forget. 🇺🇸

Here's a look at what happened at last night's Pell City Board of Education meeting!
The board recognized some incredible accomplishments across our system:
Congratulations to Coosa Valley teachers Devin Fields (94.1 The River Teacher of the Week), Ashley Young (Kiwanis Teacher of the Month), and Lauren Brascho, who recently presented at the American Educational Research Association conference in Los Angeles!
A huge thank you to Coosa Valley SRO Daryl Thistle for his quick action in extinguishing a fire on campus on May 1st.
Our FBLA students showed up and showed out at the state convention — Casen Cambron took 1st in Business Management, Nayia Patel earned 1st in Exploring Business Communications, and Peyton Latta placed 2nd in Business Ethics, along with several other top finishers. Congratulations also to Coleman Carver for serving as District 6 VP this year.
Congratulations to the DJHS and PCHS band students who earned the opportunity to perform at the All-State Band Festival in Mobile: Bryant Phung, Brent Hopper, Ethan Myers, Savannah Lee, Ally Kennedy, Brayden Fuller, and Damian Doss.
The Duran Archery team placed 6th at the State Championship Tournament, with Kambrie Swindle finishing 2nd and Maddie Russell finishing 5th in the Jr. High girls 3D challenge. Their top 10 finish qualified them for Nationals!
The PCHS Math Team finished 7th overall in the state, including 2nd place finishes in Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II, and 3rd in Pre-Calculus. Great work by coaches April Carter and Amy Phillips.
Both our boys and girls tennis teams repeated as section champs for the 4th year in a row. At the state championships, the boys finished 5th — with Sam Christian and Trent Hall earning state runner-up honors at their singles lines — and the girls finished 9th. Congratulations to all players and coaches Jennifer Lee and Kimberly Brownlee.
The board also recognized the Peer Helpers program, sponsored by Dionne Stevens, and named Coosa Valley Elementary as the Spotlight School of the Month, led by Principal Jennifer Hannah.
The board approved several personnel items including new hires, reassignments, resignations/retirements, and contracts. As required by state law, the board also approved a new 2026–2031 Capital Plan — a collaborative effort between central office personnel and our 8 school administrators focused on facility improvements over the next five years to ensure safe, quality learning environments for our students and staff. The board also approved several field trips, new contracts, and the 2026–2027 Student Code of Conduct.

Out of an abundance of caution due to threats of severe weather, all Pell City Schools will dismiss early at 2:00 p.m. today.
In partnership with the St. Clair County EMA, we have been closely monitoring weather conditions. This decision was made with the safety of our students, families, and staff as our top priority.
Bus riders will be transported home on their respective buses at the early dismissal time. All other students should be picked up at 2:00 p.m. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation.
Also, please note that tonight's Senior Awards Banquet has been postponed. We will share rescheduling information as soon as it is available.
Stay safe and weather aware this afternoon.

Behind every healthy school day is a school nurse who made it possible. They're the ones who stay calm when kids aren't, who know just what a student needs, and who go home at the end of the day knowing they made a difference – even if no one said so.
On National School Nurse Day, we're saying it loud and clear: Pell City Schools is incredibly thankful for our nurses! You are the unsung heroes of our campuses, and we appreciate you.

What makes a great teacher? It's hard to put it into words, but you know one when you've had one.
It's the person who believed in you before you believed in yourself. Who made a subject click that never had before. Who treated their classroom like a place where every student belonged.
At Pell City Schools, we believe a great school is more than a building – it's a home for our family. And we are so proud to have teachers who make it feel exactly that way. If you're an educator looking for a place where you'll be welcomed with open arms, we'd love to have you.
Happy National Teacher Day to educators everywhere – but especially ours. ❤️

Let's be honest – PE class was often the highlight of the school day.
Behind every great PE class is a great teacher, and Pell City Schools has some of the best around. This week, we're celebrating National Physical Education and Sport Week by giving a well-deserved shoutout to the coaches and PE teachers who keep our kids active, motivated, and having fun.
Y'all deserve a victory lap! 🏅
After graduation, most people never see the day-to-day of what happens in the classroom. What they don't see is everything else.
The lesson plans written after bedtime. The students checked on before the bell. The emails answered on weekends, the supplies bought out of pocket, and the extra few minutes given to a kid who just needed someone to listen.
Teacher Appreciation Week is our reminder to say out loud what our teachers already know – they have one of the most important jobs in the world as they prepare our next generation of leaders. The Pell City School System is grateful for every single one of them.
Please join us in thanking our Pell City teachers! 👏

Statement from Pell City School System Superintendent Dr. Justin Burns Regarding a Fire Incident at Coosa Valley Elementary School
Earlier this morning, a fire incident occurred at Coosa Valley Elementary School. I want to reassure our families and community that no students, teachers, faculty, or staff were harmed or injured. All students and employees are safe.
The fire originated in a classroom from an air conditioning unit. Thankfully, School Resource Officer Thistle was able to quickly put out the fire before first responders arrived on scene.
We are also incredibly grateful to the Pell City Police Department and Pell City Fire Department for their fast response and professionalism throughout this situation.
I also want to thank the administration, teachers, staff, Child Nutrition Program employees, bus drivers, and other school administrators who stepped in on short notice and helped us respond quickly and effectively. Their leadership and teamwork helped ensure students were safely evacuated and cared for.
Finally, I want to thank our parents for their patience, quick response, and cooperation throughout the day. We appreciate the support, prayers, and understanding of our community as we worked through this situation.
