We were here today, in Lac La Biche, and let me tell you: this is astonishing. The largest collection of Indigenous art in Canada other than the holdings of the Federal government. Well worth a weekend trip from Calgary or Edmonton.
Did you know we have a 2nd Generation of Woodland Artist Exhibition highlighting the distinct style of Benjamin Chee Chee. The #exhibit also showcases art by Isaac Bignall, Garnet Tobacco, Clemence Wescoupe, Gary Meeches & Eddy & Ernest Cobiness.

Congrats to @amymalbeuf on being selected for the Sobey’s Art Award long list 2020. Amy is a previous artist in residence & alumni of @portagecollege and she and @hide_tanner produced the works for our @AFA1991 25th anniversary commemorative grant the The Art of Hide Tanning.

Due to the COVID-19 outbreak we are closed until further notice. We will provide an update when we are able to reopen. We appreciate everyone’s support as we do our part to help contain the spread of COVID-19. #portagecollege
So exciting when we get new works! Students in Native Arts & Culture at #portagecollege take a course on care & collections so helped select the new works - working through the museum procurement and accessioning processes. Great experiential learning for them!

Thank you to The BearClaw Gallery for the donation of this original Daphne Odjig acrylic and ink from the early 1970s. We have a section on her Nanabush books and illustrations so this is a perfect addition!

Recent documentaries tell about how this totem pole helped transmit cultural knowledge suppressed thru colonization. BC has approved O’Brien & Fuerst logging of the forest that supplied that tree. #Canpoli#bcpoli#HaidaGwaii#HaidaCulture#HaidaModern#NowIsTheTime
