Patti’s review: "This is an intriguing and moving Middle Grade friendship/ghost story that explores Chinese-American history. Molly’s “fun” mom constantly moves them across the country. In each new home Molly unwillingly receives information on the lives of the deceased former inhabitants, merely by touching objects. Upset to be uprooted from Maine—the one place she didn't have to deal with all that spookiness and could more or less blend in with the other kids—Molly is not looking forward to sticking out, being Asian in small-town Texas. Then Jade, a ghost with scant memories of her life, insists on making contact with Molly, even as Molly struggles to ignore her. Eventually the two bond, becoming not only best friends, but partners in a quest to uncover Jade's lost history. The clock is ticking down the time Jade has left before she disappears completely, but what she asks of Molly would unnerve even the most kind-hearted soul.

"The story is super-compelling, and the friendship between fellow outsiders Molly and Jade develops beautifully. Molly learns to stand up for herself and others, and her relationship with her mother deepens. The exploration of Chinese-American discrimination and exploitation, both in the past and how it affects the present-day characters, is incredibly poignant. The writing is lovely and often funny. I absolutely loved this and highly recommend it."

Patti's review: “This is a sweet, intriguing, often funny YA fantasy that delightfully captures the confusion of youth. Sitara wants to be a dragon, though her mother insists that she is an elephant. In practical terms, Sitara—a princess by title alone, unrelated to the royal family—wants to become a palace officer at the conclusion of her studies. But there has never been a female officer in the kingdom of Oreka. Sitara also stands out because her family is N'daian, and Muslim—which makes her a target for the palace bully, as well as restricts whom she may marry. Too bad that handsome, kind, intelligent officer who seems to take every opportunity to strike up a conversation with her isn't Muslim . . . but he doesn't "like" her anyway, right?

“The writing is lovely, in the format of Sitara sharing confidences with her diary, which pulls the reader in like a dear friend. Sitara's tale will be relatable for anyone who feels different, who's being told to be an elephant when they feel they're meant to be a dragon. Wonderful story about discovering who you really are, and having the courage to be that.”

Patti’s review: “The Canid Chronology is a fantastic fantasy adventure. In a medieval village called Whim's Haven, Ashiy, a young, orphaned fox who longs for adventure, is apprenticed to the local blacksmith, a bear. His elven godmother wishes him to live a safe (dull) life, and refuses to clear up the mysteries in his past.

“When a group of marauding humans, along with an evil witch, bring chaos to Whim's Haven, Ashiy agrees to accompany two rangers, an elf and an elephant, to a distant city to bear witness and to help bring the humans to justice.

“Interesting, fun, unique characters abound. @AngolaHone has created an in-depth world that strikes just the right balance between the new and familiar. Ashiy's physical journey allows him to make mistakes and mature into a courageous, intelligent and kind hero. The journey's end is rousing, with just enough loose ends that leave me excited for the next installment of the series.”
