This was a fabulous opportunity to share and educate students, in years 12 and 13, on the Sun and it’s influence on space weather, and what research we do in Sheffield in the way of understanding complex solar events.
Matthew Lennard @MatthsNScience presented an excellent talk “Throwing Computers at the Sun: Understanding Space Weather Using Data” at the Tapton Science Seminars. It was great to see local students turning up and asking enthusiastic questions about the subject.
Congratulations Fisal (PDG PhD student) with his first research paper in the field of Solar Physics, "Slow body magnetohydrodynamic waves in solar photospheric flux tubes with density inhomogeneity", MNRAS, 529, 748–760, 2024 https://t.co/eklMXL6Lz8
Matt will present his work on "Understanding Plasma Flows in Solar Active Regions: a neural network based method for the recovery and analysis of coherent plasma structures in magnetically dominated environments".
Congratulations Matthew Lennard on his successful application to support his participation in 2024 Space Weather Workshop, April 15-19, 2024 in Boulder, CO, USA.
Congratulations to Suzana on an excellent paper! Silva, S. S. A., Verth, G., Rempel, E., Ballai, I., Jafarzadeh, S., Fedun, V., Magnetohydrodynamic Poynting Flux Vortices in the Solar Atmosphere and Their Role in Concentrating Energy, ApJ, 963, 10, 2024, https://t.co/be4R2BzXag
Viktor Fedun participated at AGU Fall Meeting, San Francisco, USA and presented the work of PDG group. Thanks, Suzana, Matt, Sergey and Luiz for the excellent posters and great research! https://t.co/ATse1xxTyT

Despite being a new mum, Suzana always finds time to help others, to advice on academic progress of students. Her problem-solving skills are making everybody's life so much easier".
Congratulations to Dr Suzana Silva (@curl_mhd) for being recognised as an outstanding postdoc during the Postdoc Appreciation Week 2023 (UoS): "For her very hard work and support towards the whole research cluster, staff members and PGR students.
