Extremely troubling. India’s consulate is calling for removal of material and investigations into Canadian schools. This is part of a trend of governments trying to control what’s said about them in educational institutions in other countries. Chinese consulates have done it too.
The Indian consulate in Toronto is trying to stop GTA teachers from giving lessons about the ongoing protests by predominantly Sikh farmers in India, claiming the material poses a security threat and could "poison" relations between India and Canada. https://t.co/gzYuTGMUcM
During Asian Heritage Month, we encourage staff, students, families and our communities to spend time learning about the rich heritage, history, culture and contributions of Asian Canadians and Asian communities throughout the world.
@PDSBSeva welcomes Sikh authors to talk to students of @PeelSchools! Began with the down to earth @raakstar “Super Satya Saves the Day” and then our very own Nikki’s Chhina‘s “Just Jeet” and NOW @simran reads “Fauja Singh Keeps Going” Links are on our broadcast page! #SHM2021

One among the four Sikh victims of the #FedExMassacre in #Indianapolis was Amarjit Kaur Johal, a Sikh grandmother.
Dadima, you deserved much better than this. Rest in paradise. Waheguru Ji Mehar Karo 🙏
@MattShchukovsky @MsMininni @Lorneparkps@PeelSchools@theJagmeetSingh Thank you for having a debrief with your students! This is exactly why we have heritage months - for awareness on issues and go beyond samosas and saris! 🙏🏽🙏🏽
5/6..From the #FarmersProtest and the plight of their elders/ancestors back home to so much more, there may be a lot on their minds. During #sikhheritagemonth & beyond,
please continue providing a space 4 them to share their brilliance but commit more to finding out who they are.
4/6..Sikhs call for allies in our fight as a religious minority back home & also here just like many others across the globe. Please don’t wait for a Picture Book to learn about Sikh students or any others. Ask them to share and if they don’t know who they are...find out.
