English as a Second Language presenters Mrs. Dever and Mrs. Mier stress the importance of using visual aides to support EL students. #penndelcoproud@PDSD_PLC
Aston Elementary's Instructional Leadership Team roles out Marzano's Instructional Element 4, Using Informal Assessments at their faculty meeting. Great discussion & building their toolbox! @PDSD_AstonES @Mr_Kuminka #PennDelcoProud@SolutionTree
Today @PDSD_AstonES ILT team and staff reviewed @robertjmarzano Element 33-Implementing Rules and Procedures and even created our own for staff mtgs. Great collaboration! #PennDelcoProud
PDSD new teachers collaborate and create engaging instructional strategies that will be pushed out K-12 for others to incorporate. #PennDelcoProud @Mr_Kuminka
A4: I 100% agree with @PennParkART that tech is our biggest resource. Having a @Twitter night in Sept. would encourage parent involvement. We could show them how to set up an account, & set them up to follow their child’s teacher! #PDSDEdChat https://t.co/mGcd7WUlA6
@mr_pignataro@PDSD_PLC The DCIU has helped me finding help. I also reached out to local college professors and used a prearranged FaceTime chat to speak with a family.
@mr_pignataro
Q4: What resources, supports, expertise, and other factors would make the biggest difference in increasing parent involvement in your school? #PDSDEdChat
@PDSD_PLC Q4: Be publically and personally thankful to parent volunteers. Provide a platform for parents to connect with each other. I think parents still ascribe to a “safety in numbers” when it comes to going outside of their comfort zone. #PDSDEdChat
A4:There are more & more opportunities to contribute and be part of the classrm live and asynchronously with tech. A phone has become a convenient and powerful tool to connect with others. Shorts clips, pics, & tweets added by parents make learning a community endeavor#PDSDEdChat https://t.co/duANncRKmK
@103Owls @PDSD_PLC I agree! I’m struggling to share info with families speaking English as a second language. Same issue when I conduct the youth orchestra, too. What translation resources can we find? Google translate has worked for convo. #PDSDEdChat
@103Owls Great ideas, @103Owls ! As we continue to get more diverse, we need to also find a way to quickly and easily translate all of our mailings or we will miss out on tons of parent and family engagement opportunities! #PDSDEdChat
@PDSD_PLC A4: Outreach for various Language Learners besides conferences. A parent lending library on current topics. Continued assistance and resources for parents & guardians that want to get their clearances. #PDSDEdChat
@PDSD_PLC I also think 5th graders could volunteer within our classrooms to read to or play a game with younger siblings if a parent wanted to do an activity with the class #futureideas
@PDSD_PLC Utilize technology! The parents of our students are just as busy as teachers. Using apps to communicate & interact with parents will increase their involvement without making it a hassle for them. @Twitter, @ClassDojo, @YouTube and @Flipgrid are easy, & FUN to use! #PDSDEdChat
@MrsAMiller205 Great point. Perhaps if we advertise "Younger Siblings are WELCOME" we would get more volunteers with minimal headaches. I've always had positive experiences with younger siblings. It's a huge treat for the class to have a little one visit too! #PDSDEdChat
Our grade 1 teachers have mystery readers come into their classes. I think it’s an amazing way to get our students/parents excited for reading. Future: A twitter convo with parents throughout the day, with the students posting pictures or info of what we are doing. #PDSDEdChat https://t.co/y4Y3l6LjsZ
@PDSD_PLC A4: I know childcare needs often comes up in my research on #parentinvolvement I've had mystery readers bring younger siblings with them and it hasn't been in issue at all, but definitely something to consider in the future #PDSDEdChat
