⚡️ The green power pool is a potential solution to the energy crisis.
We recently spoke to @UCL_ISR’s @PDrummy to find out how this could work.

🚨 NEW PODCAST: What is the green power pool?
The increasing use of renewables in our electricity system calls for a new approach.
We spoke to @UCL_ISR’s @PDrummy and @LibertySteelGrp’s Marian D’Auria to explore this further.

Electric cars are at a tipping point in terms of uptake and commercial viability, but much depends on purchase price subsidies and having the materials to make better batteries. UCL_ISR's @PDrummy explains more on @dwnews.

The UK government's Net-Zero Strategy breached the Climate Change Act, the High Court has ruled
I've read the full 59-page judgement so you don't have to, as well as speaking with several lawyers
THREAD on the ruling & what it means

@KemiBadenoch says "cutting emissions shouldn't damage our economy" - a frustratingly outdated view, flying in the face of evidence, including the key drivers of the current energy crisis. Scary stuff.

The record-low price for UK offshore wind in this week's CfD auction is four times cheaper than running existing gas plants
The biggest ever auction secured enough capacity to meet 13% of UK demand & is expected to save consumers £bns
My summary:
https://t.co/yl30x2sR3A
Quite something that offshore wind costs in the latest CfD round has fallen lower than onshore wind - an inversion very few would have predicted just a few years ago: https://t.co/iWLn0zTUh9
The UK has awarded contracts to #offshore wind companies at a record-low price ➡ https://t.co/49c4k64QSm
What policies and innovations are behind this success? Find out in this @EeistP case study @PDrummy ➡ https://t.co/9VBw6ptcmp.
Offshore wind getting contracts that are cheaper than onshore wind. Wind and solar all massively below current wholesale prices. Floating wind and tidal stream starting to deliver. All things various experts insisted were practically impossible only a few years ago. All happening
The IEA has raised its forecast for wind and solar growth (again)
Its latest sees wind + solar growth of 278GW this year, 16% higher than the May 2021 forecast
Moreover, growth will have effectively doubled in 5yrs from ~150GW/yr to ~300GW/yr
