Sure, 20 years ago is better than now, but they were still likely to close the strait of Hormuz and cause a regional firestorm

The only way to keep strait open is a ground war which would be incredibly costly, and unlikely to win, given Irans size and geography

I would say it’s a mixed bag on China. Plenty of China hawks, others less so. China is not as much a threat though given their focus on economic development (they want $ not control of US)
