My intention is that it will lead to a book at some point, but as is said, a Substack is like a book that never ends. I like that idea — an ever-developing text with multiple feedback loops with my readers and friends. That’s always been true of blogs to an extent, but Substack makes it super-easy and is a much richer environment in which to do it. I’m really trying to do something useful with this. Join me!

@southern_man76 @SawyerMerritt Read the piece. It’s 2 issues. On the crime, he made full restitution to the victims. I wish he’d been prosecuted but he didn’t get off free; he did a diversion program and avoided a felony charge. Second issue, I’m not sure he should lose his job as dumb as his behavior was.

Anyone who is a lower level white collar worker or knows any knows these aren’t extreme atypical examples. Ordering $20+ delivery lunch instead of bringing $4 lunch from home is common. Years ago, I walked a friend who couldn’t make ends meet through realizing they were spending $50/day ($1000/mo) on food between takeout breakfast ($10) and lunch ($15+) and readymade dinner ($20+), and things have only gotten more expensive.

@SawyerMerritt Note there’s no option for insurance — just as with test drives. You have to already have your own, so you already have a car. So it’s really more of an extended test drive you pay for. Still great but not a rental replacement.
