As a former Hackney Councillor for 12 years I'm disgusted by the performative and spiteful gesture politics of the Greens proposing that Hackney ends its twinning arrangement with Haifa in Israel, which has existed since 1968. The twinning happened because Hackney's large Jewish community had family and personal links there. Haifa is a famously left-wing city (ironically the Israeli Greens are quite strong there) that is a model for coexistence between Jews and Arabs. The twinning arrangement includes medical exchanges between the Homerton and Rambam hospitals. If you want peace between Israel and the Palestinians you should support initiatives that bring people together and create understanding, not cancel or boycott them.

A 36 year old man named Shaun Mckenna who violently raped a 13-year-old girl at a Highlands campsite, has been spared jail due to his life-limiting medical condition. He was diagnosed with the degenerative condition Huntington's Disease in 2022. The 13-year-old child was on holiday with her family in 2020. She was alone when he came in and pinned her down, lay on top of her, and raped her. The girl tried to fight him off, but he told her, "to stop crying and screaming as well as to shut up.” He said if she told anyone, “he would do it worse."
McKenna also committed sex crimes against two other children before that. The judge said each offence on its own was a reason to go to jail, but did not feel prison would meet McKenna's specialised needs. He will instead be supervised at his care home in Kinross, where he is not allowed to leave on his own.

This is beyond fucked up. Every man who rapes a child deserves to spend his life in prison

Apparently the BBC is now asking the judge to unseal the Jack Smith grand jury testimony as part of their defense against Trumps 10 billion lawsuit. The BBC argues that Trump was denied executive privilege 5 times in court and should not be able to hide behind it now. I think the BBC wants to prove that Trump did in fact incite the J6 riots, thus proving Trumps defamation claim as false. I do hope the judge agrees, as that grand jury testimony will be a good read.
