@rBillSimmonsPod Directionally correct, but you’re missing the Spotify piece.
Bill almost definitely doesn’t get to make the decision on whether talent keeps their IP - that falls to the corporate overlords, who likely have a simple “This isn’t how we do business policy.”
My gut feeling is that parents trying to make their kids elite at reading and writing as a backlash against our screen/video world are like teaching their kids the Dewey decimal system, microfiche, driving a stick shift. Kids intuitively know they’re growing up in a video world.
I don't have much insight here, but an anecdote that always puzzled me:
My dog had ACL surgery last year from a vet that turned out to be PE-backed. The vet had us set a follow-up appointment for two weeks from then.
We get a call from the vet on the morning of the follow-up appointment... He had received notice from the PE firm the day prior that they would be shutting down his office, effective basically immediately. The vet insisted he had received no prior warning, or he wouldn't have operated on our dog.
WTF happened here?? It's the first thing I think about when the conversation around PE being evil reemerges.
startup "truth" i disagree with: don't pay high cash comp
we now pay 250k-350k base for designers and 300k-1m base for software engineers
thread on why everyone is wrong (except me and zuck):
Speaking as a sports doc producer, the sentence pasted below is one of the most insane things I've ever read in an announcement like this:
"It is not yet known what the new documentary will be called. A firm controlled by Hudson registered trademarks for phrases including “Chapel Bill (Bill’s Version),” “Do Your Job: (Bill’s Version),” and “No Days Off (Bill’s Version).'"
