Protest on Samos vs. Europe's colonial & racial migratory policies that have killed thousands fleeing violence. Solidarity w those affected by the shipwreck, including the 6 criminalised as “smugglers” to distract from Greek and EU authorities' responsibilities #Πυλος#shipwreck
See our contribution to the BVMN monthly report where we summarise the landmark Samos case of A.D. v Greece. Yet, instead of abandoning the hotspot approach and moving away from the use of inhumane facilities, the EU spent €276 million to build CCACs on the Greek islands.
Today's @ECHR_CEDH decision in case H.A. et al v. Greece: the living conditions in Moria in 2017-2018 violated the applicants' rights under article 3 ECHR (prohibition of inhuman and degrading treatment)

The documented story of a woman & a group of ppl who arrived to a Greek island, were rounded up, beaten, robbed, abducted & abandoned at sea w/ documentation of where the crime happened in a gorgeous bay & a building used as a taverna in the summer. https://t.co/wiWwGULmdz
We are looking forward to presenting our work monitoring unlawful de facto #detention and deprivation of liberty in the EU-funded #Samos Closed Controlled Access Centre.

The #Samos#CCAC is essentially without interpreters, termed by @EFSYNTAKTON as an "endangered species” while police & private security are present 24/7 in the €43 million facility. Another indictor of the state's prioritisation of security over support. https://t.co/S3QWmVKusf
Here is a summary of IHR's contribution to @borderviolence's February monthly report: following @nyt's article on @Frontex's human rights officer's advice to end all operations in Greece, Frontex started attended at least twice to new arrival groups in Samos. (1/5) 🧵⬇️

Important judgement by the ECHR:
For the first time, the European Court of Human Rights has condemned the living conditions faced by an asylum seeker in a Greek hotspot as inhumane and degrading treatment.

Big win 💪for the courageous woman who sued 🇬🇷 in front of the @ECHR_CEDH for forcing her to live in inhumane conditions in the #hotspot on #Samos.
The Court followed our submissions in all points and found a violation of Art. 3 ECHR:

A.D. arrived from Ghana to Samos 🇬🇷 in August 2019, already heavily pregnant. She had to live in a small tent in the camp under horrific living conditions up until giving birth. The ECtHR found that Greece had violated Article 3 (prohibition of inhuman and degrading treatment).
