My first 8 years in the markets were completely profitless. I chased hot tips, averaged down on losers, and let emotions drive every decision.

Outside the markets it was similar — gambling controlled me, I dropped out of university twice, and I put off getting my driver’s license until I was 40.

The turning point wasn’t talent or luck. It was finally admitting I was doing it all wrong and committing to change. Those painful early years became my best teacher.

Sometimes you have to lose enough to finally start winning.
