After the historic @Cambridge_Uni divestment announcement yesterday, here's a joint message from us and PI Cambridge on what we will be doing #beyonddivestment.
We're excited to get to work!
Our 3 focal points are in the thread...
Yesterday's announcement by @Cambridge_Uni to divest from fossil fuels is a powerful statement that says
"we don't want to: a) profit from your business model; b) be exposed to your risks"
This was a huge achievement!
And it opens the door for a series of opportunities...

A fantastic public commitment from the University to both direct and indirect fossil fuel divestment, and to build up renewable energy investments! (1/4)

Massive congratulations to all at Cambridge who have been lobbying hard for years for divestment. This is a huge and hard won achievement.
Divestment is a powerful symbolic move that says "we don't want to have any ownership of what you're doing"
We need more, though 1/5
Bangor University in Wales divests from fossil fuels because "universities exist for the public good." Thanks to @bangorstudents and @peopleandplanet for superb organizing.
(This is the alma mater of great climate scientist @rahmstorf, not to mention Bridget Jones of diary fame)
