The Pirates and left-hander Gregory Soto are in agreement on a one-year, $7.75 million contract, sources tell ESPN. Soto, 30, had a 4.18 ERA in 70 appearances for the Orioles and Mets last season.

There’s really no reason for the Pirates not to offer a similar deal to Pete Alonso.

Schwarber a better fit overall but Alonso is younger, will be cheaper, doesn’t have a QO and could have just as big an impact.
