If you love #RPGs where you can get to know the characters, but also want a little darkness mixed in, this list is for you. And I don’t mean horror in just one way, there’s a pretty wide range, depending on what kind of spooky you’re in the mood for. 👻

CABERNET is a 2D story driven vampire themed RPG where you play as Liza, a young doctor, who passes away and wakes up as a vampire. It’s mechanics feature time based action points, a blood drinking system, a morality system, and a skills system. Mant of these features work together to give you different dialogue options and choices through out the game. While this game looks soft and cozy art wise, the decision you have to make can be extremely heavy and dark. You can even kill people by accidentally drinking too much blood so be careful!
Cabernet is a game I would absolutely play again especially because it is set up so well for replay-ability with its skill and morality systems. You can be a good vampire or a chaotic one. You could even end up right in the middle.
The voice acting was so pleasing to the ears, I really loved listening to Lizas voice. It really tied into the art style well and helped tie together the 19th century European setting this game takes place in. Some of my favorite features about this game were…
Romance Choices
Different Dresses that improve certain skills
Decorating my room
Petting the cat
Being a bat and going places I don’t belong to explore and spy
I was bummed that Cabernet didn’t have a feature to turn off the “drunk effect”. They do have a setting to fully turn off feeding but I really wanted to participate in the blood feeding system and the drunk effects were super nauseating and made me dizzy. I had to be super careful when drinking blood because if I over drank my motion sickness would have been triggered. I also had to just try to tolerate it in the tutorial which made me feel pretty awful. Adding this accessibility setting would be the cherry on top to this game and I honestly probably would have given the game a 10/10 if this setting was available.
All in all this game was incredible and has so much depth to it. If you are looking for a cozy horror game this fall, I highly recommend Cabernet!
