@ALadyMaleficent Poverty. Could only afford one bed instead of two!
"Mr. Bucket, however hard he worked, and however fast he screwed on the caps, was never able to make enough to buy one-half of the things that so large a family needed."
Almost done reading my first draft, not as bad as I thought, but still lots of work to do
On my list is to improve exposition. That is always my biggest weakness because I like to get to the good stuff ASAP.
Good exposition is an opportunity for character and setting the stakes
I very much go into "the zone" writing a first draft. Focus is always on going forward, never going back and rewriting anything.
That's why I end up with sentences like "He had a long gray beard with speckles of gray."

I'm back after a long Twitter hiatus!
Busy reading through the first draft of my novel and feeling like I just climbed a mountain only to find a bigger mountain waiting for me. Why can't first drafts be good already?? ๐

@destynethereal I start by forming some basic thoughts in my head about theme, characters and the ending. Then I may outline a very high level plot (minimal details) since it might change as I write. The important thing is to give yourself a roadmap for where you want to push your characters
