ESR 90. CRP NORMAL.
How is that possible?
ESR and CRP don’t always tell the same story.
• High ESR, normal CRP? Think SLE, anaemia or hypergammaglobulinaemia.
• Both elevated? Think inflammation, infection and other causes.
• Both normal? Inflammatory disease is not excluded.
One crucial pearl: IL-6 inhibitors can suppress CRP even during serious infection.
Never interpret inflammatory markers without the clinical picture.
