Troops Conduct Fighting and Clearance Patrol in search of fleeing ISWPA in Borno, Recover Ammunition
By: Zagazola Makama
Troops of Operation Hadin Kai, in collaboration with local vigilance groups, have conducted a fighting and clearance patrol in parts of Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State following intelligence reports fleeing movement of ISWAP elements in the area.
Military sources disclosed that the patrol was led by senior officers and launched on June 1 as part of ongoing efforts to deny terrorist groups freedom of action and disrupt their activities across the North-East theatre.
According to the sources, troops initially encountered farmers who were preparing for the planting season in surrounding bush areas. The civilians reportedly informed the patrol team that suspected insurgents had recently passed through the area in search of food and individuals believed to have escaped from military pressure in nearby locations.
The patrol proceeded further towards Jemmu village and adjoining communities when troops made contact with a suspected Boko Haram lookout moving on a motorcycle.
The sources said the suspect, on sighting the troops, fled towards the Alagarno axis, prompting a pursuit operation. However, he could not be apprehended.
Following the brief encounter, troops recovered one AK-47 magazine loaded with three rounds of ammunition.
The patrol continued exploitation of the general area, but no further contact with insurgents was made.
Military authorities said the operation was part of sustained clearance efforts aimed at weakening terrorist networks and restoring stability in affected communities.
They added that troops returned safely to base after completing the mission.

Nigerian Senate Summons CBDA Leadership Amidst Allegation of Fraudulent Asset Sales, IGR Diversion
By: Zagazola Makama
The Senate Committee on Water Resources and Sanitation has summoned the management of the Chad Basin Development Authority (CBDA) over alleged irregularities in asset disposal processes by the leadership of the agency.
The invitation, contained in a formal letter dated May 26, 2026 and signed by the Committee Clerk, Ememike Nwofor Leonard, directs the Managing Director of the Authority to appear before the Committee on June 3, 2026 at the National Assembly Complex, Abuja, alongside detailed documentation relating to the ongoing auction of government properties.
The Committee said it was alarmed that it was neither briefed nor furnished with details regarding the rationale, approval processes, or statutory compliance guiding the disposal of assets described as “strategic public infrastructure.”
It invoked its constitutional oversight powers under Sections 88 and 89 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), as well as Senate Standing Orders, 2023, demanding full disclosure of asset registers, valuation reports, bidding processes, and approvals from relevant federal agencies, including the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) and Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE).
The development comes amid mounting allegations of large-scale corruption and financial misconduct within the Authority, including claims of non-transparent auctioning of assets, diversion of revenue from equipment hiring services, and alleged sale of recently acquired government equipment and vehicles.
According to whistleblowers within the Authority, the controversial auction exercise was initially presented as a disposal of unserviceable assets but allegedly expanded to include serviceable and recently procured equipment acquired between 2020 and 2023.
This resonates deeply in #Borno State, where #ISWAP and #JAS continue to threaten civilians, humanitarian workers, and critical infrastructure daily.
The AFN–AFRICOM partnership is vital — degrade the threat, protect the people.

Col. Manga Spotted Distributing Sallah Palliatives to Vulnerable Residents in Maiduguri
By: Zagazola Makama
Residents of Maiduguri were recently surprised after spotting a senior Nigerian Army officer, Colonel Ishaya Aliyu Manga, quietly distributing Sallah palliatives and cash support to vulnerable people along Baga Road and the Customs area of the Borno State capital.
The senior officer was seen handing out bags of semovita and cash gifts to less privileged residents, including elderly persons, displaced families, street labourers and other struggling residents ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations.
Eyewitnesses said the officer carried out the humanitarian gesture without fanfare or publicity, moving from one group of people to another while exchanging greetings and prayers with beneficiaries.
Many residents later identified the officer as Col. Manga, a respected frontline commander widely known for his role in the fight against Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists in the North East.
For years, Manga has remained one of the notable military officers involved in several major counterterrorism operations across Borno State and other parts of the North East. He has participated in numerous operations in places such as Konduga, Damboa, Sambisa, Marte, Magumeri and other insurgency-hit communities.
The officer is particularly known among troops for his bravery and leadership in difficult operations against terrorists. He has survived injuries in combat and repeatedly returned to the battlefield to continue operations alongside his troops.
Despite his reputation as a fearless combat officer, residents say his latest humanitarian gesture reflects another side of the military officer — one committed to supporting vulnerable members of society.
Some residents who witnessed the distribution described the gesture as timely, especially considering the economic challenges facing many families ahead of the Sallah celebrations.
“He was doing it quietly without attracting attention,” one resident said. “Many people did not even know it was Col. Manga until later.”
Apart from his combat operations, Manga has also been associated with several non-kinetic activities in conflict-affected communities, including support for displaced persons, medical assistance, protection for farmers and humanitarian interventions in parts of Borno State.
Residents who benefited from the gesture offered prayers for the officer, asking God to continue protecting and strengthening him as he continues his service to the nation.
Many described the act as a reminder that beyond defending the country, members of the Armed Forces also play important humanitarian roles within society.

Troops Rescue 92 Kidnap Victims, Recover Vehicles in Borno Operation
By: Zagazola Makama
Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have rescued 92 kidnapped victims and recovered eight vehicles following a successful operation against suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists in Borno State.
Sources told Zagazola Makama that the operation was carried out on May 23 by troops of 135 Special Forces Battalion deployed at Echo 1, Dutse Kura, along the Buratai–Kamuya road in Biu Local Government Area.
According to the sources, troops detected suspicious movement through surveillance system, which revealed terrorists moving civilians and vehicles into nearby bush paths.
A Quick Reaction Force was immediately mobilised to the scene, while reinforcements from 27 Task Force Brigade also joined the pursuit of the fleeing terrorists toward the Mangari-Dora general area.
The troops reportedly engaged the terrorists in a fierce encounter, forcing them to abandon the kidnapped victims and the vehicles before fleeing deeper into the bush.
So true, @A_Salkida You’ve captured a hard truth many prefer to ignore.
When the military records successes rescuing victims, repelling attacks, and killing dozens of insurgents and stabilising communities, it barely gets attention. But the moment there is a setback, it dominates headlines and shapes the entire narrative. That imbalance is unfair to men and women who risk their lives daily to keep this country standing.
Whether people like it or not, the Nigerian military remains a critical force holding the line. Without them, the reality would be far worse for millions of Nigerians. Entire communities would be overrun, and many who speak freely today might not even have that opportunity.
Criticism is valid in any system, but it must be balanced and informed. Constantly tearing down the military while ignoring their sacrifices does more harm than good. If we are serious about security and stability, then we must also be honest enough to acknowledge the role they continue to play under very difficult conditions.
A-lot of people are working to tear this country apart or make sure it fails. Fake narratives is being sold out to international communities while crises entrepreneurs are cashing out on daily basis. There are those who are hell bent in sabotaging the country’s while disguising as our helpers. The problem of insecurity became even worst since the Big helpers set their foot on the ground. But the question is “Where is the HELP?”
