US Congress has once again raised concerns about the state of free speech online in the UK and the impact it could have on US citizens and businesses.

A close ally of President Trump and Chair of the House Judiciary Committee, Jim Jordan, has written to Lisa Nandy setting out his objections to her department’s censorious plan to force social media platforms to promote “trustworthy” public broadcasters such as the BBC while demoting other outlets, including GB News.

In his letter, Mr Jordan said that the proposals in the Department for Culture, Media and Sport’s (DCMS) green paper, Watch this Space, “would serve as a major threat” to online speech and “infringe on the rights of American companies”.

The senior Republican also warned that several of DCMS’s proposals would undermine the open exchange of ideas online. He said: “Several of DCMS’s proposals would hurt the free, competitive marketplace of ideas, and instead prioritise state-sanctioned media outlets with the goal of influencing the scope and direction of public discourse.”

Mr Jordan has called on the UK Government to provide a briefing on the proposed changes and explain its intentions.

This is not the first time Mr Jordan or the Trump administration has raised concerns about the state of free speech in the UK, particularly online.

Last year, Mr Jordan led a House Judiciary Committee delegation to the UK and Europe to examine the UK’s Online Safety Act and the EU’s Digital Services Act. The Free Speech Union had the opportunity to brief the delegation at a roundtable in Parliament.

So, last week I was made aware of barcodes for various items at supermarkets, predominantly Asda, for 90% off items such as chicken and steaks.

I have a good friend who went into his local Asda, attempted to use this vouchers which 100% worked but because the worker came over and seen the vouchers, she told him that the are fraudulent and if he paid for the items he could be charged.

The vouchers 10000000% work but allegedly it is fraud so I would highly advise against using them.
