We're thrilled to announce our Annual Golf Day will take place this year at Balmore Golf Club on the 18th May! 18 holes followed by a 2 course dinner, all in support of our research centre!
Please email [email protected] by the 9/5/25 to enter
We can't wait to see you there!
A respected clinical academic with 230+ publications and involvement in multiple clinical trials, Prof. Copland is pioneering new treatments for leukaemia.
Meet our inaugural #MeetTheResearcher: Director Prof. Mhairi Copland! Prof. Copland earned her PhD on novel drug combinations to eradicate Ph+/BCR::ABL+ stem cells in CML at the University of Glasgow under our own Prof. Tessa Holyoake. @CoplandMhairi
Exciting news! On Monday, we’re starting a new series titled ‘Meet The Researcher’ - In this series, we will introduce group leaders, post-doctoral researchers, and PhD students here at POG!

New Studentship Alert!
We have a new and exciting studentship working with @LabWheadon and @horne_gillian titled: ‘Overcoming myeloid leukaemic stem cell persistence and chemoresistance in the endosteal niche’.
Look at the happy supervisors!
(More details below) 👇
The project will utilise a novel and fully developed in vitrohumanised 3D self-structuring bone model to investigate leukaemic stem cell persistence and behaviour within short-term (<3 months) and long-term (>1 year) culture.
Seven slides for staining,
Six clean data plots,
Five grant re-submissions!
Four buffer stocks,
Three PCRs that worked,
Two glowing Westerns,
And a pipette calibrated perfectly!
On the twelfth day of Christmas, my group leaders gave to me…
Twelve projects pending,
Eleven flow plots gating,
Ten late-night emails,
Nine gels resolving,
Eight primers ordered
👇
Happy Christmas!!
This project will involve validating the bone marrow niche model, testing chemotherapeutic drugs, advanced Brillouin-confocal microscopy and performing biological assays to characterise normal, pre-malignant and malignant samples, with Professors Helen Wheadon and Mhairi Copland.
We are hiring!!
We are looking for a research assistant/ associate to get involved in an EPSRC Programme Grant that aims to engineer an in vitro bone marrow niche to control stem cell regulation, metastatic evolution and cancer dormancy
Apply below 👇

This project will focus on cell-to cell interactions and how the architecture of the bone marrow niche is remodelled during malignancy. LSCs dormancy and chemoprotective properties of the bone marrow niche will be areas of interest.
