ACCEPTANCE SPEECH BY MR. PETER OBI FOLLOWING HIS NOMINATION AS THE PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE OF THE NIGERIAN DEMOCRATIC CONGRESS(NDC) – MAY 30, 2026
Protocols,
Esteemed citizens of Nigeria,
It is with deep humility that I accept the role of presidential candidate for our party.
I express my profound gratitude to the leaders of our party. His Excellency Seriake Dickson, the National Chairman, National Secretary and the National Working Committee, NWC members and members of our relentless supporters, and the Nigerian populace who have steadfastly kept the spirit of hope alive. I commend those who have made the journey from every region of our nation to convene here in Abuja.
I wish to assert unequivocally: a New Nigeria is Possible. This conviction has united us; it must serve as our compass on the challenging road ahead and sustain us through all trials we may face. This pivotal moment transcends the individual ambitions of Peter Obi; it concerns the essence of our nation and the future of our children. It is about rekindling hope for millions who have faced adversity yet remain committed to Nigeria.
Today, our nation finds itself at a crucial juncture, enveloped in uncertainty. Families are anxious about their safety; parents are concerned for their children's futures; and talented youth increasingly question their prospects in their homeland.
Businesses are struggling, communities are suffering, and an alarming number of citizens have lost faith in the very concept of governance. Yet, I stand before you filled with optimism and strong faith in the resilience of our people, for I firmly believe that a New Nigeria is possible.
UNITY
To realise this New Nigeria, we must first mend the foundational elements essential for the success of any nation.
Nigeria cannot advance while fragmented by ethnic, religious, regional, or narrow political divides. We may communicate in different languages and practise diverse faiths, but we share a singular destiny under one flag. Our diversity should not be a source of division; rather, it is among our greatest strengths.
We should build bridges where others erect barriers, replace mistrust with confidence, division with understanding, and resentment with a collective purpose. A united Nigeria is indispensable. As Will Durant wisely pointed out, "A great civilisation is not conquered from without until it has destroyed itself from within." We must never self-destruct. We must heal, unify, and progress together.
INSECURITY
In terms of security, the situation in Nigeria has considerably worsened. The global terrorism impact assessments ranked Nigeria as the 8th most affected nation in 2022, 6th in 2024, and 4th in 2026.
Yet, for many years, Nigeria garnered global recognition as a reliable contributor to peacekeeping, regional stabilisation, and conflict resolution. Our troops have not only displayed bravery but have also shown professionalism, discipline, resilience, and empathy in the most challenging operational contexts. Our officers and personnel have successfully commanded multiple international forthe ces, safeguarded vulnerable civilian populations, monitored ceasefires, reinstated constitutional order, and contributed to rebuilding efforts.
Nigeria became one of the leading contributors of troops from Africa to UN peacekeeping missions and earned widespread admiration for operational effectiveness and leadership in various countries, including Rwanda, Sudan, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Mali, Western Sahara, Congo, Lebanon, Cambodia, Haiti, and Kuwait. At one pointin a Nigeria, Lt. General Isaac Obiakor (rtd) even led global peacekeeping initiatives.
We must address insecurity with resolve and urgency, for no nation can thrive while its citizens live in trepidation. The primary responsibility of the government is to ensure the safeguarding of lives and property.

I am privileged to be invited as an observer to the Spier Dialogue 2026 in Cape Town, South Africa, a gathering that has brought together respected leaders, policymakers, diplomats, entrepreneurs, and change makers from across Africa and the world to discuss the future of democracy, governance, leadership, urbanisation, and economic transformation on our continent.
This opportunity was made possible through the kind facilitation and connection of Mr. @PeterObi, whose commitment to fostering meaningful dialogue and engagement across African leadership spaces continues to open doors for constructive exchange and shared learning.
As someone who contested for the position of Chairman of AMAC in the last election, this experience has been deeply enriching, particularly as I had meaningful engagements and listened to Mr. George Hill-Lewis, the Mayor of Cape Town and Leader of the South AfricanDemocratic Alliance, on city building, sustainable urban development, and how African cities can be transformed through visionary leadership, proper planning, and focused oriented governance.
These are exactly the ideas and reforms I envisioned for AMAC and Abuja, creating functional communities, improving infrastructure, ensuring environmental sustainability, empowering young people, and building cities that truly work for the people.
I also had the privilege of exchanging ideas with Mr. Venancio Mondlane, the leadership of ANAMOLA, the Mayor of Mozambique, and several other distinguished African leaders and thinkers on governance, economic productivity, institutional reforms, and the urgent need for Africa to invest more in its people, especially the youth.
One thing remains clear, Africa has enormous potential, but realizing that potential requires competent, accountable, and compassionate leadership committed to service rather than personal interests.
The conversations here in Cape Town further strengthen my belief that transformational leadership and intentional city development are critical to building the Africa we all desire.
Dr. Moses Paul (Dr Mo)
Earlier today, I arrived in Cape Town, South Africa, to take part in the Spier Dialogue 2026, an important event centred on the future of Africa and the urgent challenges facing our continent and the globe.
The Spier Dialogue occurs at a crucial time as Africa grapples with significant issues in governance, democracy, economic inclusion, urbanisation, migration, and leadership. However, it also highlights the vast opportunities presented by the energy and creativity of our young population.
As leaders and stakeholders gather from various regions, I look forward to partaking in insightful discussions, especially as I have the privilege of addressing attendees tomorrow on policies geared toward growth.
Africa’s future should not be characterised by poverty amid abundance or by division instead of development. It is time for us to transition from consumption to production, from divisive politics to politics built on competence and compassion, and from mere promises to tangible progress that serves everyday citizens.
Upon my arrival, I had the opportunity to meet with the Nigerian community in Cape Town for a heartfelt discussion about the recent challenges affecting African expatriates in South Africa, resulting in over two hours of fruitful dialogue.
I remain dedicated to advocating for a New Nigeria and a New Africa—one where governance genuinely serves the people, where the youth are equipped with education and opportunities, and where leadership is founded on integrity, service, and sacrifice.

JUST IN: Peter Obi says the crises within the ADC and other political parties are being instigated, supervised, and orchestrated by external forces, alleging government involvement.

Tinubu in Jos Confirms ‘Don't Vote for Me’ Prediction on Power Supply
During the 2023 campaign, President Tinubu made a clear electoral promise: “If I don’t give you constant electricity in four years, don’t vote for me for a second term.”
When he took office in 2023, Nigeria had a power supply of over 4,000 megawatts and lower tariffs. Today, the electricity power supply is less than 4,000 megawatts on the average, and Nigerians are paying higher tariffs. Nigeria currently has the lowest per capita electricity consumption in the world, with a rate below 30% of the African average. Africa’s average is 617kwh, Nigeria’s is 144 kWh. This means that Nigerians consume least electricity than other Africans.
In a glaring display of disregard for promises and a lack of trust, President Tinubu, during a brief airport stopover to visit grieving families of the Jos attack on Thursday, April 2, 2026, stated that one of the reasons for his 10-minute stay was that the airport had no electricity. “You have no light here I fly out in ten minutes” At a time when Nigerians are enduring days without power, our leaders cannot even stay a few minutes without it.
Now is the time to stop incompetent leaders—those lacking the capacity and compassion—who prioritise their own comfort over the well-being of the people and make empty promises.

Breaking Red Alert in Benin, Edo State
PO and the leadership of the ADC are under siege and attack in Benin, Edo State.
At the formal declaration of Olumide Akpata into the African Democratic Congress, armed individuals followed us from the ADC Secretariat to the residence of Chief John Odigie-Oyegun.
They shot at the gate and destroyed several vehicles in what appears to be a survived assassination attempt on our lives.
Democracy is in danger.
Statement to the Press by Dr Moses Paul, ADC Candidate for Chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) Election Held on Saturday, February 21, 2026
Abuja, Federal Capital Territory
February 22, 2026
Gentlemen of the Press,
I have called you here to address the events of last Saturday, in which the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) once again took Nigerians for granted, showing a blatant disregard for their sensibilities.
I stand before you today not as a man diminished by the outcome of Saturday’s event, but as a man empowered by a political movement. This movement is not born of convenience but of conviction; it is carried not by power, but by people. It is written not in ink, but in sacrifice.
Over the past few months, from the streets of Karshi to the bustling markets of Wuse, from the crowded paths of Nyanya to the quiet resilience of Gui, Abuja residents have risen, standing up and expressing their beliefs. For this, I bow my head in gratitude.
Let it be known and recorded in history that what we witnessed in this election was not merely a contest for office; it was a declaration of dignity by a people who refuse to surrender their future.
I have reviewed the outcome as announced. While I firmly believe, based on our extensive engagement and the overwhelming spirit of our movement, that we earned the sacred mandate of the people, I strongly condemn the declared results, as they do not reflect the true will of the residents of Abuja.
Among those who voted, many have expressed deep disagreement with the announced outcome due to widespread irregularities. These include the restriction of movement through the imposition of a curfew; the intimidation and attacks on ADC party members by security agencies; massive vote buying across several wards; and voter suppression caused by the late arrival of election materials in key polling units, including Kabusa, among others.
There were also cases of alteration and mutilation of polling unit results, which tragically contributed to the death of Musa Abubakar at the Gwagwa polling unit while he was trying to protect his vote. I have since visited his family and have ensured that his children will be placed on scholarship, as a modest commitment to honour his courage and sacrifice. I am calling on the relevant authorities to thoroughly investigate the matter and ensure justice.
These actions undermine the integrity of the electoral process and the confidence of the people in our democracy.
Our movement was never built on the fragile foundation of titles; it was built on the enduring foundation of truth. And truth does not expire with an election.
To the young men and women who stood in the sun for hours, who walked distances they had never known, and who gave their time, strength, and voices: you are the authors of a new chapter.
To those who came from near and far, who sacrificed their resources and endured intimidation and doubt, your sacrifices have forever altered the moral landscape of AMAC.
To those who gave their life, blood, sweat, and unwavering courage: you have shown that the Nigerian spirit is alive and refuses to kneel.
You did not only stand for me; you stood for yourselves, for your children, for justice, for democracy and for the powerful belief that leadership must be earned, not imposed. For this, I will remain eternally grateful.
I extend my deepest appreciation to every voter who performed their sacred civic duty. Your courage has reaffirmed democracy as a living promise, not a forgotten idea.
I thank the leadership and members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for standing firmly on the side of principle. Your belief in a different kind of politics has not gone unnoticed, and history will honour your courage.
To every volunteer, supporter, elder, youth, and woman who carried this movement in their hearts: you have given me something far greater than victory; you have given me purpose...
We are set.
Please go out and perform your civic duties. Vote and ensure you PROTECT your vote.
Arise and shine, Nigerians, for a New Nigeria is POssible. 💪🇳🇬
