Idemili NDC Primaries: How Hon. Uchenna Harris Okonkwo Defeated Eric Anyamene and Other Aspirants
By Comr. Kenechi Okoye
The 29th of May was remarkable as constituents from Idemili North and South spoke loudly through the ballot. Hon. Uchenna Harris Okonkwo was rewarded for his dedication and commitment to legislative interventions. In Idemili North, where he attracted infrastructure projects and an ICT Centre, especially in Obosi, where he sponsored a bill to recognize Obosi as a local government, the people gathered in Ogidi, chanted the name of Hon. Uchenna Harris Okonkwo, and voted massively for him.
In Idemili South, the constituents made it clear that Hon. Uchenna Harris Okonkwo’s re-election is sacrosanct, so he can continue and complete the good works he started, and they voted massively for him.
On the other hand, Eric Anyamene, who stormed Idemili North and South election centres with thugs, armed men, and money, was rejected by the people. Our people stood firm and rejected the money he offered them, and out of frustration, he allegedly ordered shootings and the doctoring of results, yet he failed woefully.
The people of Idemili made it clear to Eric Anyamene that it is still the turn of Idemili South to represent the constituency, as Obinna Chidoka, from the same Obosi as Eric, represented the constituency from 2015 to 2023, a period of eight years. They maintained that it would be unfair to return power to Obosi after only four years and therefore voted massively for Hon. Uchenna Harris Okonkwo.

Peaceful Primaries in Idemili North & South Marred by Violence from Eric Anyaneme, as Massive Crowds Endorse Hon. Uchenna Harris Okonkwo
The primary elections for the Idemili North and South Federal Constituency, held today at Ogidi (Idemili North) and Ojoto (Idemili South), were initially characterized by a peaceful and impressive display of democracy. The great, loving people of Idemili, old and young, men and women, and energetic youths came out en masse to show overwhelming support for Hon. Uchenna Harris Okonkwo, who is seeking to be returned to the House of Representatives.
The exercise was progressing smoothly when unfortunately, one of the contestants, Mr. Eric Anyaneme, arrived at the Ojoto venue (Idemili South) with truckloads of thugs and armed men in an attempt to disrupt the process. However, he was vehemently resisted by the youths, men, and women of Idemili South, who bravely chased them away. In the ensuing chaos, his thugs resorted to shooting at ordinary indigenes who had gathered to stand with Hon. Uchenna Harris Okonkwo.
After being chased out of the Idemili South venue, Mr. Anyaneme proceeded to the Idemili North venue in Ogidi. There, he saw that the good people of Idemili North were standing in line peacefully to support Hon. Uchenna Harris Okonkwo. In response, he allegedly ordered his thugs to start shooting indiscriminately in an effort to scatter the venue. Despite this disruption, we are pleased to report that the electoral officers remained resolute and were able to complete their duties effectively.
A Call to the Party (NDC)
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) must not allow the likes of Eric Anyaneme to be part of its goal of making Nigeria better. Through his actions today, he has clearly showcased that he is a thug who does not abide by the rule of law. Allowing such behavior to stand would undermine the party’s efforts to promote order and democracy.

Loyalty is not merely about standing with a movement when it is convenient; it is about believing in an ideology strong enough to inspire sacrifice, unity and hope for a better future. Today, I proudly stand with my leader, mentor and elder brother, H.E. Peter Obi, reaffirming our collective commitment to the ideals of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) — a movement built on inclusion, justice, accountability and the genuine desire to rebuild Nigeria for all.
Our vision is clear: a Nigeria where the youth are not sidelined but empowered to lead innovation, enterprise and governance; a Nigeria where women are not only recognized but given equal opportunities to thrive, contribute and shape the future of our nation. The strength of any society lies in how it carries along its young people, protects the dignity of women and restores honour to public service.
For me, this journey is beyond politics. It is about loyalty to the people, loyalty to progress and loyalty to a generation yearning for responsible leadership. It is about building a political culture that rewards hard work, integrity, competence and compassion over division and selfish interests.
As we continue this movement together, I remain committed to the cause of giving Nigerians renewed hope, strengthening democratic values and ensuring that governance truly reflects the aspirations of the people.
The mission continues. The movement grows stronger. The future remains bright.

Tonight in Abuja, I joined fellow aspirants, party leaders and critical stakeholders at the ongoing NDC Aspirants Dinner, a gathering that has continued to spark meaningful conversations about the future of Nigeria and the direction of our democracy ahead of 2027.
Beyond the atmosphere of camaraderie and political engagement, the event provided an important opportunity for interaction, consultation and the strengthening of alliances within our great party. It was inspiring to witness the growing unity, confidence and shared determination among members of the NDC, all driven by a collective desire to reposition Nigeria and restore hope to our people.
I had the privilege of engaging with party faithful and stakeholders on the urgent need for people-oriented leadership, responsible governance and a political movement that truly reflects the aspirations of ordinary Nigerians. For me, these conversations remain deeply important because leadership must always be centered on service, inclusion and measurable impact on the lives of the people.
One thing that stood out clearly tonight was the positive energy across the gathering and the visible confidence radiating from our leaders, especially Peter Obi. His cheerful disposition and calm optimism further reinforced the belief that a new Nigeria is indeed POssible.
As we continue this journey towards 2027, moments like this remind us that political movements are not built merely through speeches, but through shared conviction, strategic unity, sacrifice and the courage to stand firmly for national transformation.
The conversations are growing stronger.
The movement is expanding.
And the hope for a better Nigeria remains alive.

2027 Politics: Why the Zoning Agreement Must Be Sustained in Idemili North and South Federal Constituency.
By Comr. Kenechi Okoye
As the build-up to the 2027 general elections gradually gathers momentum, it has become necessary for stakeholders of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), party faithful, community leaders, and the good people of Idemili North and South Federal Constituency to remain committed to the long-standing zoning arrangement that has continued to promote peace, equity, fairness, and political stability within the constituency.
The zoning principle was established to ensure balanced representation and inclusiveness between Idemili North and Idemili South, giving every section of the constituency a sense of belonging in the leadership structure.
It is important to place on record that Idemili North successfully completed its eight years of representation through the tenure of Hon. Obinna Chidoka from Obosi, who served in the House of Representatives from 2015 to 2023 under the platform of the PDP.
In the spirit of justice and political understanding, stakeholders and electorates across Idemili North and South united ahead of the 2023 general elections to uphold the zoning agreement, a decision that produced the emergence of the incumbent lawmaker, Hon. Uchenna Harris Okonkwo from Idemili South.
Today, Idemili South is yet to complete its constitutionally expected turn under the zoning arrangement, having only served one term of four years. For the sake of equity, fairness, justice, continuity, and sustainable development, it is only right and morally justifiable that Idemili South be allowed to complete its remaining tenure.
Sustaining the zoning agreement is not merely about politics; it is about preserving unity, mutual trust, and the spirit of brotherhood that has kept Idemili North and South politically stable over the years. Any attempt to disrupt this understanding could undermine the foundation of fairness and political harmony painstakingly built by leaders and stakeholders across the constituency.
At this critical moment in our political journey, all NDC members, stakeholders, opinion leaders, youth groups, women organizations, and the electorate must rise in defense of justice and equity by supporting the continuation of the zoning arrangement for the collective interest and sustainable progress of Idemili North and South Federal Constituency.
