Congratulations to the 2025 PPS Indian Education Graduates!
These students were celebrated over the weekend at the annual Honor Day ceremony. Honor Day is a celebration of graduating Native American youth in Portland Public Schools.
Let's spend this week celebrating our teachers who put their heart and souls into ensuring every student in PPS is seen, heard, valued, and given an equal chance to thrive. We could not do what we do without the commitment you show to our students and school communities.
This week we are thrilled to celebrate National Teacher Appreciation Week!!
Each year in May, students, parents and community members have the opportunity to share their appreciation for teachers across our district.
There were 60 kids at the first dance. Earthstock now entertains more than 700 students, staff and volunteers, and is rapidly becoming one the largest events of its kind in the country.

Earthstock 2025 was a huge success!
Each year, special education students from across the region gather at Portland's Crystal Ballroom for a one of its kind high school dance.
Earthstock began in 1992, at the request of a young student who was confined to a wheelchair and was disappointed he couldn’t attend the high school dances because of support or transportation issues.
Sunnyside Environmental School went all out for Earth Day! The community showed up for the celebration. There was face painting, mask making, seed collecting and more. But the highlight was the one-mile Parade of the Species where plant and animal costumes were encouraged.
Congratulations to Tereza Bottman, an English Language Development Teacher at Franklin High School.
She received a Fulbright Teacher Exchange award for the 2024-2025 cycle from the U.S. Department of State and the Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board.
Tereza has the opportunity to go to India this summer to do research and learn about Indian schools and the country's system of education. She plans to begin an international collaboration promoting global education with teachers in India and fellow Fulbrighters across the U.S.
