INDIGENOUS PEOPLE OF BIAFRA (IPOB) REAFFIRMS BARRISTER IFEANYI EJIOFOR AS GENERAL LEGAL REPRESENTATIVE:
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has reaffirmed Barrister Ifeanyi Ejiofor as itsGeneral Legal Representative, according to a statement issued by the lawyer himself on 28 July 2026.
In a detailed public clarification posted on his X (formerly Twitter) account, Ejiofor stated that IPOB, as an organisation, had that day reaffirmed his firm’s standing as its solicitors and legal representatives.
He emphasised that the professional relationship is based on a continuing mandate that “cannot be retrospectively altered, invalidated, or otherwise dictated by its former leaders.”Ejiofor further clarified that he personally withdrew from representing Nnamdi Kanu, the detained IPOB leader, in any capacity in December 2023, well before Kanu’s conviction and life sentence.
Since then, he said, his team has continued to act solely as solicitors to IPOB the organisation.
In that role, he claimed, they secured the discharge and acquittal of more than 200 alleged IPOB members in full trials at the Federal High Court in Abuja, the High Court of Ebonyi State, and the Abia State High Court between December 2023 and 2025.
He stressed that Kanu never independently appointed him as attorney for IPOB; any earlier involvement was limited to Kanu’s personal legal representation, from which Ejiofor had already disengaged.
Biafra First, Institutions Must Lead Restoration, Not Personalities
Biafra must be the single focus point. Restoration requires clear institutions and dedicated departments organised solely around that goal, structured bodies with defined roles, accountability, continuity, and a
SETTING THE RECORD STRAIGHT: I PERSONALLY WITHDREW FROM NNAMDI KANU’S LEGAL REPRESENTATION IN DECEMBER 2023
NO ROOM FOR MISCHIEF: THE FACTS CONCERNING MY LEGAL MANDATE FROM IPOB
For the avoidance of doubt, and for the sake of clarity, I wish to state unequivocally that I personally disengaged myself from the legal representation of Nnamdi Kanu in any capacity since December 2023, long before his eventual conviction and the subsequent sentence to life imprisonment.
In the exercise of our professional rights and responsibilities as legal practitioners, we have, throughout the relevant period, remained in effective and continuous retainership as solicitors to the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). In that capacity, we have diligently and professionally discharged our responsibilities, securing the discharge and acquittal, upon the conclusion of full trials, of over 200 alleged members of IPOB across the Federal High Court in Abuja, High Court of Ebonyi State and Abia State High Court respectively, between December 2023 and the year 2025.
These are not matters founded on hearsay or conjecture. The records are matters of public knowledge and are readily verifiable.
For the avoidance of doubt, Nnamdi Kanu never independently appointed us as attorneys to the IPOB. His limited involvement in our appointment was solely in his capacity as his personal lawyer, from which we had, since December 2023, formally disengaged our services. Furthermore, and for the avoidance of any further doubt, therefore, I reiterate that from December 2023 to date, I have not represented Nnamdi Kanu in any capacity whatsoever, whether as his private counsel, family lawyer, or otherwise. Any attempt to suggest the contrary is, at best, a deliberate distortion of the facts and, at worst, a calculated narrative designed to serve ulterior and mischievous purposes.
It is equally important to place on record that IPOB, as an organisation, has today reaffirmed our standing as its solicitors and legal representatives. That professional relationship is founded upon a continuing mandate and cannot be retrospectively altered, invalidated, or otherwise dictated by its former leaders.
It is important to state, at this juncture, that the Nigerian Correctional Service Act is clear as to the manner in which any communication purportedly emanating from a convict or an inmate may be duly authenticated or validated. Any communication purportedly emanating from an inmate, whether a convicted prisoner or a person awaiting trial, must bear the imprimatur and appropriate authentication of the officer in charge of the relevant correctional centre. This requirement is intended to ensure the authenticity, integrity, and proper verification of such communication.
This clarification is particularly important and should serve as a cautionary reminder to practitioners who are often quick to rush to report what are clearly unauthorised communications purportedly emanating from inmates, without first appreciating or verifying the applicable legal and administrative procedures governing such communications.
Let the facts, therefore, speak for themselves. Let the records speak for themselves. And let those who are genuinely interested in the truth consult the records rather than manufacture narratives for purposes best known to them.
We continue moving forward!
Signed

I suggest that the IPOB leadership formalize a contract again with Barrister Ifeanyi Ejiofor and, if possible, officially introduce Mike Ozekhome to IPOB as a legal adviser.
People should not be surprised by what is coming out of Sokoto. The Nigerian government is using Mazi Nnamdi Kanu to play a game of destabilization, as every sane person will understand.
I told people a long time ago that the Nigerian government is targeting the pillar of IPOB which is DOS, and they are not relenting.
Some short-memory and emotional people will not understand this ploy, but it is a deliberate strategy which IPOB must strategically overcome.

IPOB Directorate of State Reaffirms Barrister Ifeanyi Ejiofor as General Legal Representative
A formal letter dated 27 July 2026 from the Directorate of State of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has reappointed Barrister Ifeanyi Ejiofor as the movement’s general legal representative and counsel.
The document, issued on IPOB letterhead and addressed to Ejiofor at his Abuja law firm (I C Ejiofor & Co, No. 29 Kigoma Street, Wuse Zone 7), states that the reappointment renews his brief and explicitly overrides and replaces an earlier appointment letter dated 2 May 2017.
According to the letter, the earlier appointment had been rendered null and void by subsequent restructuring and institutionalisation of IPOB’s leadership. It notes that the offices of leader and deputy leader who signed the 2017 letter “no longer exist in the IPOB leadership structure.” The new appointment is presented as taking the current structure into account.
The document highlights Ejiofor’s “continued legal representation and efforts to ensure that all innocent Biafran youths illegally detained by the Nigerian government and its security agencies regain their freedom.” It is signed by Mazi Chikadibia Edoziem, the Head of the Directorate of State of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), and bears an official stamp of the Directorate.
IPOB describes itself in the document as “A Non Violent Biafran Self-determination Movement.” Barrister Ifeanyi Ejiofor has previously been associated with legal work linked to the group, including representation of detained members.

United We Stand: IPOB Leadership Will Never Be Broken
Don’t underestimate the Nigerian government. Did you ever believe in your life that Mazi Nnamdi Kanu would battle the IPOB leadership?
That is the power of the government and its intelligence services. No matter how powerful any individual may be, the government has the capacity and intelligence to try to manipulate people into turning against the very establishment they belong to. But our strength has never been in one person alone, it has always been in our unbreakable unity. That is why we continue to hammer on establishing institution.
Today I acknowledge the Nigerian government’s determined efforts to dismantle IPOB. They are truly putting everything into it as a government, but unfortunately for them, we shall never allow them to tamper with IPOB. I urge every member of IPOB, its leadership, and every intelligent person who understands what is happening to stand firmly together. Let us continue supporting and encouraging one another with even greater resolve. Our collective resilience is what will defeat every scheme.
People like us have clearly seen the government’s ploy; that is why we remain united and will never shift our support for the IPOB leadership. Be strong and stand shoulder to shoulder, this storm shall soon pass, and we will emerge even stronger because we faced it as one.
The imposition of a man who has nothing to do with IPOB movement is more than enough of a red flag to show that the Nigerian government and its intelligence services are at work. Yet this only reminds us why we must close ranks tighter than ever. Mazi Chika Edoziem and the entire IPOB leadership, together with every coordinator, must stand strong, united, resolute, and unyielding.
This is why it is called a struggle. If there were no challenges, then IPOB would not be standing on the right side. Challenges test our resilience and prove our unity. Some will dance to the tune of the Nigerian government’s deception, but intelligent people already understand the game. We will continue to support the IPOB leadership with one voice and one heart.
Kudos to the IPOB leadership.
Kudos to every coordinator.
Kudos to Homeland IPOB.
Kudos to everyone standing strong and united with the DOS.
TOGETHER WE ARE RESILIENT.
UNITED WE ARE UNBREAKABLE.
WE ARE NOT SHIFTING GROUND.
