Dec 2005, Japan was ranked 15th in the world rankings. As of January 2026, they are 19th.
Nakata, Nakamura, and Inamoto were bigger stars with far more impact in top European leagues than today's players Mitoma, Kubo, Endo.

@coach_kevin_m Yep.. one of the main objectives for coaching a 8 year old boy or girl is that they are still playing in 20 years time. That could be Sunday League, Elite, Power League etc etc

@MenInBlazers Aussie kids are as good as any in the world from ages 5-11. Then from ages 12+ there seems to be a problem as the level drops off and can't compete with European based kids.

That’s only from my experience of playing professionally, coaching professionally and identifying players that have represented their countries in World Cups.

I might be wrong but I really don’t think all the strength work makes much difference at all.

I think we will look back in 10-15 years and go ‘what a waste of time’.

It’s only my opinion though. I might be wrong.

The average height of an outfield Premier League football player for the 2024/25 season is 182.4 cm, which is approximately 6 feet.

Defenders: Approximately 185.2 cm
Midfielders: Approximately 180.1 cm
Forwards: Approximately 181.8 cm

The average height of an outfield La Liga football player for the 2024/25 season is approximately 180.7 cm, which is about 5 feet 11 inches

Defenders: ~183.5 cm
Midfielders: ~179.0 cm
Forwards: ~180.0 cm

Comparison: La Liga’s average outfield player height (180.7 cm) is slightly lower than the Premier League’s (182.4 cm)
