To undecided Albertans, I ask one question: what protects us when Ottawa turns against Alberta again?

Not promises. Not goodwill. Not temporary exemptions.

We need leverage and lasting change. That is why I am voting Option 2 on October 19.

I have an idea. What if the corporate lobbyists appearing on television or radio had to disclose on the air any relevant conflicts of interest before commenting on the news? For example, if a person working for firms like Rubicon, Teneo or TACT appeared on CBC or CTV, they had to disclose that they make money lobbying Mark Carney? That way when these lobbyists support any specific politician or policy, the audience has adequate information to assess the credibility of their commentary? What do you guys think?

Hola, soy palestino. 🇵🇸
Y como la honestidad es poco común en mi política, permítanme confesar algunas cosas.

1947. La ONU me ofreció un estado. Junto a Israel. Fronteras, independencia, reconocimiento.

Me dio autonomía.

¿Democracia? No he tenido elecciones en casi 20 años.

Fraser Institute just ranked living standards across all 10 provinces and 50 U.S. states.

Seven Canadian provinces landed in the bottom 10. New Brunswick came dead last. Alberta was the only one that even cracked the top half, and it was 25th.

Median employment income was higher in every single U.S. state than in every Canadian province in 2024.

That is not a rounding error. That is the gap showing up in real paycheques, real grocery bills, and real ability to keep a roof over the kids.

The numbers are clear. The question is how long we keep pretending the direction is fine.

Carney’s $10 OAS Raise. Canada’s Seniors Kneel in Gratitude.

I have paid government taxes and into so-called ‘pensions’ for 56 years. Still paying.

In 1970 at 16 years old when governments first started taking a portion of my earnings, I had no idea the money would be wasted, stolen, sent abroad to support unjust but profitable wars, sent to people who hate us – or used to destroy the Western-Christian foundations of Canada.

Had I known, I would have left for the United States or elsewhere while I was still young. Many friends did exactly that in their early 20s. I stayed.

Now I’m told I am a White oppressor and a boomer responsible for the country’s decline. Two or more generations - recent arrivals and younger Canadians raised in the public schools - have been taught to see me that way. To ridicule, despise and even to hate me.

It does not matter that I worked at Stelco and then as a Toronto police officer, that I carried the bodies of friends killed in service of Canada - or that my own multiple injuries on duty and months in hospital mean I have not been able to walk normally and without pain since 1982.

It does not matter that my family has been in Canada since at least 1703, were pioneers on the prairies, or that by Royal declaration of the King - I, my children, grandchildren and all succeeding generations are forever are honoured with the post-nominal ‘U.E.’

It does not matter that I raised three children, the last ten years entirely on my own until they were adults, and that all three turned out well. My four grandchildren are joys. I am so proud of each and all of them.

None of that counts. I am White, male, 72 and a legacy Canadian. That is what matters.

So I am expected to get down on my knees and thank @MarkJCarney for an extra ten dollars a month, while begging forgiveness for my sin of being here since 1703.

We're paying too much taxes to the wrong government.

For illustration purposes, the average Alberta family has a total income of $172,000 (Fraser Institutes, 2025).

Total tax bill: $65,000 (income taxes, GST, property taxes, payroll contributions like CPP & EI, fuel/excise taxes, etc.)

How are those taxes distributed?

Federal: $43,400 (~67%)
Provincial: $17,000 (~26%)
Municipal: $4,200 (–7%)

Note: Municipal is mostly property tax; the education portion of your property tax bill goes to the province. GST and most of CPP/EI land in the federal column. Numbers are rounded for clarity and are not precise for any individual household.

So the government that picks up your garbage, keeps your water running, maintains your roads, and shows up when your house is on fire gets about 7% of the average Alberta household’s total tax bill.

On the other side, the one that decides how much of your money goes to other countries, how the equalization formula works, and what the national carbon policy looks like, gets roughly two-thirds.

That’s not a rounding error. That’s the system working exactly as designed.

Your local council has to balance its budget every year and answer for potholes and snow removal. Ottawa can run deficits for decades and still tell Alberta it’s “not paying its fair share” while collecting the largest slice of the pie. The province sits in the middle, running health care and education while also collecting education property tax on top of income tax.

It’s backwards. The decisions that hit your driveway tomorrow are funded by the smallest share of you money. The decisions that hit your paycheque for the rest of your life are funded by the largest share, and those decisions are made the farthest away.

An independent Alberta wouldn’t magically make every problem disappear. But it would at least put the biggest tax bill and the biggest decisions in the same place... closer to the people who actually live with the results.

An independent Alberta is the only path forward.

Excellent article. “This referendum has exposed something larger than the independence question. It has shown Albertans what happens when ordinary citizens challenge an entrenched political order.

Governments, premiers, former premiers, federal politicians, senators, unions, universities, publicly funded business organizations, and taxpayer-funded advertising all speak on behalf of their vested interests.”

Public institutions exist to serve the people. When citizens question the status quo, those institutions should respond with answers, transparency and accountability. Their responsibility is to earn public trust, not demand public obedience.

Trudeau was the clown. Carney is Mr Burns.

Cold. Calculating. Elitist. I warned about this before he became PM.

He smiles, then does what he wants. Debate gets choked. Laws get bypassed by OIC. An NDP MP just called it what it is: an authoritarian government.

Soft tyranny doesn’t kick the door in. It rules by fiat and ignores Parliament. #cdnpoli

I didn’t really get the problem with gender ideology at first.

I’m liberal-minded about most things. 'Live and let' live has generally been my motto. I believed inclusion mattered. I believed in being kind. In not using language that might upset people unnecessarily.

I knew people who identified as transgender. I knew some adults chose medical treatments or surgery to resemble the opposite sex. That seemed to me a matter of personal autonomy. Adults can do what they wish with their own bodies.

What I hadn’t realised - and I feel slightly embarrassed admitting this - was that I’d misunderstood what was being claimed.

I thought “transgender” meant a form of self-expression. A man who liked wearing women’s clothes. Someone changing their name. Gender non-conformity.

What I hadn’t grasped was that some activists weren’t just asking for tolerance. They were asserting that declaring yourself the opposite sex made you the opposite sex. Not metaphorically. Literally.

And that this wasn’t just cultural. It had legal consequences.

- It meant men who said they were women were demanding access to women’s sports, prisons, domestic violence shelters and hospital wards

- It meant the rewriting of healthcare language - “pregnant people”, “bodies with cervixes” - to avoid saying “women”

- It meant children struggling with identity being affirmed onto medical pathways with lifelong implications

And also redefining same-sex attraction. Lesbians called 'bigoted' for not wanting relationships with men who identify as women. Gay men accused of prejudice for saying they're not attracted to female bodies. None of which made any sense.

But I'd also overlooked how far this had travelled - into HR policies, professional bodies, schools, political parties and public institutions.

And how easily disagreement was framed as cruelty. Speaking up felt risky - because others were being publicly humiliated for doing so.

None of this is abstract.

Because sex is the basis on which safeguarding works. On which data is collected. On which cancer screening programmes run. On which fair sport and single-sex spaces depend. It’s written into law - including the Equality Act - because material differences matter.

If sex becomes a 'feeling' rather than a biological category, those protections become unstable.

And once reality becomes negotiable, everything does.

Once I saw it, I couldn’t unsee it.
But I needed to be sure.

So I read. Books, research papers, policy documents. When I finally spoke publicly, there was backlash from all directions.

Many women thanked me - both quietly and publicly.
But some feminists criticised me for speaking too late.

Others were angry about a past interview I’d done with the parent of a transgender person, accusing me of promoting harm.

It takes courage to change your mind publicly.

It takes courage to speak when you know your reputation, friendships or livelihood may be on the line - when you know raising your voice could strain, or even end, relationships you value.

Once I understood what was at stake, staying silent was no longer an option. I lost my livelihood simply for saying I didn’t like the phrase “pregnant people”. That alone tells you something is deeply wrong. It shouldn’t be this way.

I will never judge any woman for when she finds her voice.

Because every voice adds value - whenever it is raised.

And I know how persuasive this ideology can be. I know how easily it bypassed me. And I know how much courage it takes to admit, publicly, that you got something wrong.

This is fucking nuts...

Carney's Liberal governmnet is robbing us blind. This makes ArriveCan look like child's play.

Who could have predicted that the Liberal government would continue to be such thieves 😏

[Rachael Thomas @RachaelThomasAB]

Female athletes are speaking out about their concerns over the fairness and safety of having biological males compete in women’s sports.

The Liberal Secretary of Sport turns a blind eye to their concerns, dismissing them as a “simply stupid, conservative pseudo fantasy.”

Women’s voices continue to be dismissed and ignored, raising the question: when will the Liberals start listening to the women directly affected by these policies?

[Marc Nixon @MarcNixon24]

AUTHORITARIAN GOVERNMENT

Don Davis calls Mark Carney essentially a dictator. We don’t have democracy in Canada. It’s an authoritarian government.

The Liberals studied this closely, and realized that if they extended MAID for people solely suffering from mental illness....they'd be killing too many of their supporters.

That Mr. Kirby is still CEO of United Airlines after he ‘pledged’ to make your airlines less safe by hiring ‘diverse new pilots’ instead of the most qualified pilots says that you and the United Board of Directors are dangerously putting passengers at risk!

Even more concerning is Mr. Kirby’s inaction, and United Airlines Board members inaction, NOT firing PRO- HAMAS TERRORIST PILOT IBRAHIM R MOSSALLAM is despicable, racist, and disgusting and another DANGER to United passengers.

I will no longer fly United Airlines and I ask that MY FOLLOWERS NO LONGER FLY UNITED AIRLINES and that they RETWEET THIS FAR AND WIDE!

Our neighbours here in Sechelt did not have cloth, they wore skins and tree bark. No homes, they were nomadic, (except on the coast where they had long houses), No plumbing, No wheel, No commerce (money), No education, No written language. They were a primitive culture that raided other villages to murder and pillage. They had slaves, took prisoners and were fond of torture. They were a savage bunch.

Yet we mouth fawning praise for these former slavers & warring cultures. We bow to them in submission and deference.

I’m all for starting fresh as equals. Give each one land that is individually attached to that person and their heirs, forever.

No more multiple nations within one nation.

No chiefs running corrupt local bands like fiefdoms.

No more should the children born today be enslaved to hand over their earnings in perpetuity to the great great grandchildren of someone who hunted rabbits in the bush over there.
