Indian Army Excels at the World's Highest Ultra Marathon! 🇮🇳

On 13 Jul 2026, Maj Deepak Kumar of 153 General Hospital and Capt Sivaguru Vellasamy S of 4 LADAKH SCOUTS successfully completed the gruelling 70 km Umling La Challenge, the world's highest-altitude ultra marathon, organised by the Sarmang Society and Sarmang Adventure Tours under the Summit or Surrender race series.

Maj Deepak Kumar secured 1st Position, reflecting exceptional endurance, determination and the indomitable spirit of the Indian Army. The achievement underscores the physical robustness, mental resilience and unwavering commitment of Indian Army personnel to excel in the most challenging environments.

Vice President Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan was briefed on the National Cadet Corps (NCC) and Sainik Schools by Raksha Rajya Mantri Shri Sanjay Seth, along with senior officers of the Ministry of Defence today at Uprashtrapati Bhavan.

Appreciating the NCC's contribution to nation-building, the Vice-President described the Cadet Exchange Programme under Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat as an excellent initiative for strengthening national integration. He also lauded the NCC's community service initiatives, including Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan and Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, and welcomed the establishment of the NCC Alumni Association.

On 09 Jul 1999, the brave soldiers of LADAKH SCOUTS (Karakoram Wing) launched a daring assault on Padma Go and Point 5229 in the Batalik Sector during the Kargil War. Rising above 17,000 feet and dominating the Khalubar Ridgeline, the objective formed a vital part of the enemy's defensive posture. The battle witnessed exemplary leadership by Capt Naresh Kumar Bishnoi, SM, who led from the front with exceptional courage and determination despite overwhelming odds.

The relentless and devastating fire delivered by the two BOFORS Fire Units of 307 Medium Regiment was precisely directed by the Forward Observation Officer, Sub Padma Nabh of 15 Field Regiment. The accuracy and intensity of the artillery fire enabled the assault to maintain its momentum, forcing the enemy to abandon its positions at Padma Go and Point 5229.

The capture of Point 5229 broke the enemy's resolve in the Batalik Sector and remains a shining example of courage, determination and seamless Infantry-Artillery coordination during Operation VIJAY.

India remembers with pride and gratitude. 🇮🇳

Her remarkable NCC journey is marked by several distinguished achievements, including representing the Battalion in the Guard of Honour for the Hon'ble Lieutenant Governor and the Chief Minister, earning the Director General's Commendation, participating in the prestigious Republic Day Camp 2026 and showcasing excellence in Prime Minister's Rally Piloting. These accomplishments reflect her discipline, leadership, perseverance and steadfast commitment to the ideals of NCC.
